  • Patent number: 9675937
Abstract: A permeate carrier to be described in detail below has side edges, alternatively called borders, that are thinner than a central part of the permeate carrier. Adhesive is applied to the side edges to form a seal when a membrane leaf is formed around the permeate carrier. After the membrane leaf is wound around a central tube, the side edges extend in a spiral around the central tube. The transition between the side edges and the central part of the permeate carrier helps prevent adhesive from flowing into the central part of the permeate carrier. The reduced thickness of the side edges also reduces an increase in diameter at the ends of an element that might otherwise be caused by the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 9675938
Abstract: A method of cleaning a porous polymeric membrane having a feed side and a permeate side including the steps of introducing a fluid containing a cleaning agent to the permeate side of a membrane allowing the cleaning agent to contact the permeate side of the membrane for a predetermined time, and contact the pores of the membrane, or introducing a fluid containing a cleaning agent to the feed side of a membrane; applying a transmembrane pressure to force the fluid containing the cleaning agent from the feed side to the permeate side of the membrane; allowing the cleaning agent to contact the permeate side of the membrane for a predetermined time, and contact the pores of the membrane. Preferably a concentration gradient between the feed side fluid and the lumen side fluid containing the cleaning agent causes cleaning agent to diffuse into the feed side fluid. Pressure may be applied to the fluid containing a cleaning agent to dislodge, where present, dissolved and undissolved solid from the membrane pores.

  • Patent number: 9675948
Abstract: When a first electromagnetic valve of a first stirring tank is turned ON and a second electromagnetic valve of a second stirring tank is turned OFF, the air pressure inside the first stirring tank increases and the liquid in the first stirring tank is sent into the second stirring tank via piping. When the volume of the liquid inside the second stirring tank reaches an upper limit, the first electromagnetic valve of the first stirring tank is turned OFF and the second electromagnetic valve of the second stirring tank is turned ON. As a result, the liquid inside the second stirring tank is now sent into the first stirring tank via the piping. Ultimately, because the liquid is circulated between the first and second stirring tanks and the liquid is flowing at all times due to the repetition of said actions, separation does not occur.

Abstract: A specimen delivery apparatus includes a housing having a backplane. The backplane includes at least one fluid communication port. The housing has an open state and a closed state. A midplane has a cavity for holding a sample. The midplane is sealed within the housing when the housing is in the closed state. A first actuator is disposed to move fluid within the housing when the housing is in a closed state and the first bulb is actuated. Various embodiments provide for caching of the fluid as well as staging to permit further preparation of the specimen prior to delivery. Various features roil the fluid to assist in extraction, mixing, and transport of the sample with the fluid. A destructible seal prevents fluid communication through the fluid communication port while the seal is intact. Communication of fluid through the fluid communication port is enabled only when the destructible seal is not intact.
