  • Patent number: 9695666
Abstract: A backup ring design for a packer sealing element features a folding shape where opposed legs are pushed together for extension in a radial direction toward the surrounding tubular to span the extrusion gap. The design can use a V-shape where the vertex is toward the mandrel and the legs are oriented toward the surrounding tubular. The legs in that instance can be thicker than the vertex thickness to aid in folding while providing enhanced strength at the surrounding tubular where shear forces apply as a result of seal compression against the surrounding tubular. The design features a single or multiple vertices that are similarly aligned or alternatingly oppositely aligned to create a zigzag shape in cross-section. Material selection can vary with the expected service conditions.

  • Patent number: 9695668
Abstract: The present invention relates to a millable plugging device for use in a well pipe. The device includes an inner mandrel and an outer housing provided radially outside at least parts of the inner mandrel. A sealing assembly is provided radially outside the inner mandrel, where the sealing assembly is configured to be brought from a run state to a set state by a relative axial displacement between the inner mandrel and the outer housing. • Patent number: 9695670
Abstract: A slurry mixing system calculates a density of a slurry using measured pressure differential and based on a bulk velocity of the slurry. Slurry from mixing of dry blend and mix fluid enters a one or more tanks having agitators. A pump then pumps the slurry from the tank(s) to the well, and a portion of the slurry is recirculating back to a mixer. From the recirculated path, a direct slurry weight sensor measures a pressure differential of the slurry between two vertical measurement points of a known volume. The sensor can measure a velocity of the recirculated slurry, or the recirculated slurry can be maintained at a velocity. Based on these measures, the controller calculates a density of the slurry, monitors a ratio of the dry blend and the mix fluid, and adjusts the ratio based on the calculated density of the slurry if there is a discrepancy.

  • Patent number: 9695675
Abstract: A screen assembly can be used for “gravel pack” or “frac pack” operations and can then withstand high rate injections. The disclosed screen assembly is able to withstand the flow of the packing operation by not allowing fluid passage from the annulus to inside the screen assembly. Then, the screen assembly can be opened and facilitate high rate injection for the life of the well. To achieve this, the disclosed screen assembly does not allow slurry flow to enter the screen assembly during the packing operation. Then, after the packing is completed, the screen assembly provides enough open flow area so that a high injection rate with solid content can be introduced into the annulus without eroding the screen.

Abstract: A system and methodology facilitates creation of perforations along a wellbore. The technique utilizes a perforating gun system having cooperating components, such as a carrier, a loading system, and a plurality of shaped charges. • Patent number: 9695678
Abstract: A system and method allows the operation of a remotely located tool in an application where there is a telescoping space out joint in such a manner that the hanger need not be released. A hydraulic piston is surface actuated to move gripping teeth against the pipe and then take the pipe with the gripping teeth so that a tool that is engaged by the string can be remotely operated while safety features for the well can remain operative. The shifted position is held with maintained control line pressure. Some release of the control line pressure will not allow the operating piston to return. Rather, a check valve holds the shifted piston position until a differential pressure on the check valve drops to a predetermined value so that the check valve acts as a dump valve. The system operates off annulus pressure if the control line is damaged.

  • Patent number: 9695698
Abstract: A turbomachine aerofoil blade has an aerofoil body portion and a dovetail root fixing at the base of the aerofoil body portion which slides, in use, into a correspondingly shaped slot of a rotor of the turbomachine. The dovetail root fixing has a neck portion, and support flanks engage with matching angled surfaces of the slot under centrifugal loading of the aerofoil blade to support the aerofoil blade on the rotor. The neck portion is shaped such that a rotational adjustment of the aerofoil blade relative to its angular position when supported under centrifugal loading is needed to provide adequate clearance at the neck portion to allow the dovetail root fixing to slide into the slot. On centrifugal loading the engagement of the support flanks with the matching angled surfaces of the slot forces a reversal of the rotational adjustment and reduces the clearance at the neck portion.
