  • Patent number: 9723511
Abstract: Example embodiments presented herein are directed towards a mobility management node and SGW or Gn/Gp-SGSN, and corresponding methods therein, for downlink data buffering in a wireless communications network. Such buffering is useful when the wireless device is in a power saving state e.g. PSM or eDRX. Thus, since the downlink data is buffered, there is no longer a need for multiple Downlink Data Notifications to be sent.

  • Patent number: 9723540
Abstract: A low-cost system and methodology that facilitates improved femto access control by employing Bluetooth® technology is provided. Bluetooth-based femto access control utilizes a Bluetooth modem in a femto access point (FAP) that broadcasts a unique Bluetooth identity (ID). Nearby UEs can detect the femtocell and employ the Bluetooth ID for idle mode reselection and active mode handover behavior. Specifically, on detecting a femtocell, a UE can perform Bluetooth pairing with the FAP prior to performing attachment signaling. Moreover, only if Bluetooth signaling is successful, the UE proceeds to attach to the FAP. Thus, the system and method disclosed herein can control the UEs that attach to the femtocell, thereby reducing the signaling load and improving battery life of the UEs.

  • Patent number: 9723546
Abstract: An objective of the present disclosure is to provide a wireless communication device that is capable of efficiently searching another wireless communication device that is capable of providing a required service. A master device, when the master device receives an advertisement from a slave device, transmits, to the slave device, a scan request that includes information on a requested service that the master device requires. The slave device, which has received the scan request, decides whether or not the slave device itself is capable of providing the requested services, and transmits, to the master device, a scan response that includes a result of the decision. When the decision result included in the scan response indicates that the slave device is capable of providing the requested service, the master device establishes a connection to the slave device.

  • Patent number: 9723547
Abstract: Embodiments describe methods, apparatuses and logic for a user equipment (UE) to connect to an access point (AP) in a wireless local area network (WLAN) based on credentials from a UE's home third generation partnership project (3GPP) network. In some embodiments, the UE may receive selection policy parameters from the WLAN including a network access identifier (NAI) realm. The UE may also receive selection policy parameters from the 3GPP network. The UE may compare the selection policy parameters of the WLAN with the selection policy parameters of the 3GPP network and discover roaming relationships between service providers and the relative priorities of different networks, and create a network list based on the comparison. The UE may then associate with an AP of the WLAN based on the prioritized network list.

Abstract: A method in a radio network node for ranking cells within a group of cells in a cellular network is provided. The radio network node is serving a first cell, in the group of cells. The radio network node receives (201) power level measurements from one or more user equipments. The power level measurements respectively indicate a power level in at least one cell of the group of cells where the respective one or more user equipments is active. The radio network node then ranks (202) importance of the cells in the group of cells, both based on the power level measurements, and on the number, for each cell out of the group of cells, of user equipments whose power level measurements indicate that the respective cell has the highest power level.
