Abstract: Dynamically cycling of air in an indirect evaporative cooler. A heat exchanger includes a dry passage separated from a wet passage by a membrane, the dry passage including an intake portion, an outlet portion, and a loop portion. By selectively passing intake air from the intake portion and/or recirculation air from the loop portion using a mixing valve, air is moved into and through the loop portion. The air within the heat exchanger can be selectively passed outside through the outlet portion and/or recirculated by the mixing valve. In this manner air is able to be circulated a number of loop circuits through the loop portion, enabling cooling and/or dehumidifying of air.

Abstract: Water temperature conservation for increasing efficiency of an indirect evaporative cooling apparatus. A heat exchanger of the indirect evaporative cooling apparatus includes a dry passage separated from a wet passage by a membrane, the dry passage including an intake portion, an outlet portion, and a loop portion. Water captured from condensation during a dehumidification process can be stored and/or used to wet the wet passage of the heat exchanger to enhance evaporative function. Stored water can be maintained at a relatively lower temperature than the environment, helping to maintain a lower internal apparatus temperature and to further cool circulating air.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe a multi-layer chiller operation management framework and associated methods for managing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) multi-chiller unit operation in real time serving varying system loads. According to the present disclosure, the framework includes two layers—a first layer providing 24-hour chiller operation planning thereby optimizing chiller operation using forecasted load profiles to minimize energy consumption. To this is applied a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) based optimization. A second layer adjusts chiller operation status in real-time based on actual system load demand. Load forecasting uncertainty is cured in a hierarchical manner based on the level of load uncertainty. Two approaches are employed namely rule-based load sharing adjustment and MILP-based rolling optimization.

Abstract: A method of determining loss of refrigerant charge in a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The method includes receiving, using a controller, a plurality of temperature values from a plurality of temperature sensors placed at multiple locations within the HVAC system and calculating, using the controller using the plurality of temperature values, a plurality of temperature-dependent values. The method further includes determining, using the controller, whether a first temperature-dependent value of the plurality of temperature-dependent values is above a first predetermined temperature value and responsive to a determination that the first temperature-dependent value is above the first predetermined temperature value, transmitting, using the controller to a user interface, a notification indicating that the HVAC system is operating with low refrigerant charge.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and a device for controlling refrigerant in an air conditioning system. The method includes: S1: comparing a superheat degree of each outdoor unit with an average superheat degree; S2: if the superheat degree of a present outdoor unit is higher than the average superheat degree, and a first different between the superheat degree of the present outdoor unit and the average superheat degree is greater than a present value, increasing a refrigerant amount entered into the present outdoor unit; and S3: if the superheat degree of the present outdoor unit is lower than the average superheat degree, and a second different between the average superheat degree and the superheat degree of the present outdoor unit is greater than the present value, decreasing the refrigerant amount entered into the present outdoor unit. Therefore, the refrigerant amount entered into each outdoor unit is adjusted from systemic overall perspective.

Abstract: A refrigeration facility such as a refrigeration container includes a refrigeration device cooling an interior of the refrigeration facility and including an evaporator allowing air inside the refrigeration facility to pass through. A condensate port serving as a corrosive gas detector is installed in a drain hose. The drain hose disposes condensate water from a drain pan, which collects condensate water generated by the evaporator. Detecting corrosive gas in the air inside the container by using a pH sensor to examine a pH value of condensate water in the drain port allows for reducing the risk of corrosion of components installed inside the container.
