Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for measuring blood volume using non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. The method of the present invention includes a subtraction-based method using a pair of acquisitions immediately following velocity-sensitized pulse trains for the label module and its corresponding control module, respectively. The signal of static tissue is canceled out and the difference signal comes from the flowing blood compartment above a cutoff velocity. After normalizing to a proton density-weighted image acquired separately and scaled with the blood T1 and T2 relaxation factors, quantitative measurement of blood volume is then obtained.

Abstract: In a method and apparatus for acquiring magnetic resonance (MR) raw data with a simultaneous multi-slice (SMS) data acquisition sequence, nuclear spins respectively in multiple slices of the examination subject are simultaneously excited by radiating, from a radio-frequency (RF) radiator of the MR data acquisition scanner, a multi-band (MB) RF pulse. This MB RF pulse in the SMS data acquisition sequence is generated by radiating and superimposing a number of single band (SB) RF pulses emitted from said RF radiator, each having a respectively different flip angle. Raw MR data are acquired from the multiple slices of the examination subject after the simultaneous excitation of nuclear spins in the multiple slices with said MB RF pulse.

Abstract: Techniques are provided which may be implemented using various methods and/or apparatuses in a mobile device to perform a distance travelled estimate with a mobile device. The distance travelled estimate is performed by determining a quality of displacement between a base position and each new position for the mobile device, which is determined based on the displacement between the positions and their associated uncertainties. If the quality of displacement is sufficient, the distance travelled estimate is updated using the displacement between the positions. Multiple tiers may be used, where, for example, if the quality of displacement is sufficiently high, the displacement associated with a preceding position may be excised from the distance travelled estimate and replaced with the displacement associated with the new position. Additionally, if the quality of displacement is even greater, the new position may be set as the base position.

Abstract: A system for locating RFID tags in an area includes a platform and an RFID reader head associated with the platform. At least one support extends between the platform and an anchor position within an area. Separate support adjustment devices are associated with each support, with each support adjustment device being operable to adjust the length of the associated support between the platform and the anchor position associated with the support. So adjusting the length of the support varies the location of the RFID reader head in the area, thereby allowing an RFID reader associated with the RFID reader head to monitor a larger area than would otherwise be possible if the RFID reader were to remain in a fixed location. The RFID reader head itself may be movable with respect to the platform for finer adjustment of the position of the RFID reader.

Abstract: Aspects of the invention provide improvements to electromagnetic and other wave-based ranging systems, e.g., RADAR or LIDAR systems, of the type having transmit logic that transmits a pulse based on an applied analog signal. The improvements are characterized, in part, by a SERDES having a serializer (a/k/a a “transmit side”) that is coupled to the transmit logic. The serializer has (i) an input to which a pattern on which the pulse is based is applied and (ii) an output from which a serialization of the pattern is applied to the transmit logic. The improvements are further characterized in that the SERDES has deserializer logic (a/k/a a “receive side”) that is coupled to receive logic and that deserialize a received “analog” signal containing possible reflections of the pulse.

Abstract: A radar system has different modes of operation. In one mode the radar operates as a single-input, multiple-output (SIMO) radar system utilizing one transmitted signal from one antenna at a time. Codes with known excellent autocorrelation properties are utilized in this mode. At each receiver the response after correlating with various possible transmitted signals is measured in order to estimate the interference that each transmitter will represent at each receiver. The estimated effect of the interference from one transmitter on a receiver that correlates with a different code is used to mitigate the interference. In another mode, the radar operates as a MIMO radar system utilizing all the antennas at a time. Interference cancellation of the non-ideal cross correlation sidelobes when transmitting in the MIMO mode are employed to remove ghost targets due to unwanted sidelobes.

Abstract: Prior to actual use in a downhole application, gamma spectrum shape for a gamma detector can be quantified, and a relationship established between detector gain and spectrum shape. Given this relationship, the shape of a gamma spectrum measured after downhole deployment of the detector within a wellbore, for example as part of a tool in a drill string, can be quantified and compared to the pre-established relationship to determine whether the detector gain has drifted due to temperature or operating time effects. Using this relationship, a gain-affecting voltage across the detector (e.g., the photocathode voltage across the photomultiplier tube) can be adjusted to compensate for such drifts and thus to compensate for variations caused by temperature or operating time. With such compensation applied to the detector, resulting gamma spectra reliably indicate actual differences in radiation levels, thus enabling an inference of the composition of the formation at various times/depths.

Such an arrangement of sensors may enable the downhole tool to perform measurements of the entire wellbore without the downhole tool needing to be rotated, leading to an increased signal-to-noise ratio of the measurements.

Abstract: Lens systems used in a gigahertz/terahertz imaging system are proposed. Each proposed lens system may include two thin lens elements, spherical or aspherical, in which combined provides gigahertz-terahertz refractive power with a small f-number. The gigahertz-terahertz waves are diverted by the lens systems in such a way that it forms an image of an object, such as a human scale object, on a planar gigahertz-terahertz image sensor. The radius of curvatures, profile, sizes, spacing, and aspherical coefficients of the lens elements may be selected to achieve quality focusing performance. The spacing between the lens elements and the spacing between the lens elements and the image sensor may be adjusted to change both the focal length and the focusing distance to achieve optimum field of view and maximum imaging resolution. The size of the lens may be scaled with the size of the object or the lens aperture stop.
