Abstract: The present invention generally relates to microfluidic droplets and, in particular, to multiple emulsion microfluidic droplets. In one set of embodiments, multiple emulsion droplets are provided, where an inner shell of the droplet is relatively thin, compared to the outer shell (or other shells) of the droplet. For instance, in one set of embodiments, the inner droplet has an average thickness of less than about 1000 nm. In some cases, the inner shell may be rigidified, e.g., to form a gel or a polymeric layer. This may be useful, for example, for preventing coalescence of fluids within the microfluidic droplet. Other embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to methods of making such droplets, methods of using such droplets, microfluidic devices for making such droplets, and the like.

Abstract: The process serves for preparing sodium ion-free X carbonate or hydrogencarbonate effervescent powder, such granules or such tablets. The active substances X, at least calcium carbonate, moistened with a small amount of alcohol and water, are mixed as powder with a small amount of lactobionic acid in a partial vacuum in a vacuum tank with continual pumping. As a result, the calcium salt (CaCO3) of the calcium in the surface layer of the powder particles reacts with the lactobionic acid, effervesces and releases a small amount of CO2. Consequently, the pressure in the vacuum tank rises and after the end of the effervescent reaction the internal pressure in the vacuum tank drops back to the starting value through the continual pumping. In so doing, the powder dries. After removal from the vacuum chamber an acid, preferably citric acid, as an effervescing agent is added, and subsequently the powder is electively pressed into tablets.

Abstract: The invention relates to a metallic, nanoporous canister used to encapsulate cellular and/or biotherapeutic agents. The device is biocompatible and functions to wholly isolate a therapeutically active agent and/or cells therein. Their implantation, and survival in vivo, permits the local or systemic diffusion of their encapsulated cellular and/or biomolecular and therapeutics factors with the potential to promote repair of damaged or degenerated tissues in mammalian hosts, primarily humans.

Abstract: A teat protective pack material for coating teats of lactating livestock to prevent mastitis is disclosed, the teat protective pack material including a polymer latex and a coagulant for coagulating the polymer latex to form a film. The teat protective pack material optionally includes a surfactant, a mold-releasing agent, a water-soluble polymer, water and/or a water-soluble solvent, an antifreezing agent, etc. if required. The teat protective pack material, may have excellent adhesiveness, elasticity, abrasion resistance, durability, aging resistance, oil resistance, weatherability, breast shape followability, etc. The teat protective pack material may be capable of immediately coating the whole teat and thus preventing adhesion of teat packs adjacent to each other, and, when milking again or in case of emergency, may be able to be quickly removed without using any additional facility, material, etc.
