Patent number: 9845242Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating nano particles, including but not limited to nano particles of Ceo, at high concentration. The invention uses a solid aerosol disperser in communication with a furnace tube having a vaporization chamber and a dilution chamber. A heating element surrounds the furnace tube. Heat from the heating element heats bulk materials contained within a gas flow in the vaporization chamber to a temperature sufficient to convert the bulk materials to a vapor phase. Vaporized bulk materials are then moved to a dilution chamber, where an inert gas is introduced through a dilution gas port. The flow of the inert gas into the dilution chamber through the dilution gas port is sufficient to eject the bulk material from the exit of the dilution chamber, thereby condensing the bulk material into nano sized particles in a gas flow of sufficient volume to prevent agglomeration of the nano sized particles.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2007Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Amit Gupta, William C. Patent number: 9845250Abstract: A system and method for stretching the discharge of plasma in a liquid utilizes in certain embodiments a first, second and third electrode within a liquid holding container, a gas injection conduit for introducing a gas such as air or oxygen into the container, and a power supply electrically coupled to at least the second and third electrodes. In certain embodiments, a seed plasma generated by a first and second electrode is stretched, and a larger plasma is generated by a first and third electrode. In certain embodiments, a fourth electrode can be used to further stretch the plasma. An increase in gas introduction flow rate can also be utilized to facilitate the stretching of plasma.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2015Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: ENERGY ONVECTOR, LLCInventor: Jun Kang

Patent number: 9845251Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for reducing the amount of polluting and/or valuable elements through application of electrolysis, in particular of the electrocapturing phenomenon. The electrolysis according to the present invention is applied permanently over time in a polluted water body. The predetermined action area (115bis, 115ter) preferably has a smaller extension than the water body. The at least one phenomenon (125bis, 125ter) is preferably powered electrically through production of electrical energy in loco through at least one renewable energy source (140). The method is suitable for purifying large expanses of water, like seas, lakes, lagoons and rivers, through plants operating permanently, however this does not rule out other applications.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2013Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: SEGREGATION OF METAL SYSTEM S.R.L.Inventors: Antonino Abrami, Fabrizio Tamburini

Patent number: 9845252Abstract: Between two juxtaposed similar ion exchange membranes (AEMs or CEMs), an ion depletion zone (dde) and ion enrichment zone (den) are generated under an electric field. As cations are selectively transferred through the CEMs, for example, anions are relocated in order to achieve electro-neutrality, resulting in the concentration drop (increase) in ion depletion (enrichment) zone. The concentration drop (i.e. salt removal) is low and spatially gradual at relatively low voltage or current (i.e. Ohmic regime). However, at higher voltage or current (i.e. overlimiting regime), strong electroconvective vortex accelerates cation transport through CEMs, allowing us to “relocate” most salt ions. The flat depletion zone occurs with significantly low ion concentration, and corresponding strong electric field in the zone, and any charged agents (e.g. proteins and bacteria) cannot penetrate this flat zone.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2014Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: Rhokyun Kwak, Jongyoon Han

Patent number: 9845253Abstract: A method of treating contaminated water effluent from a well drilling operation. The method comprises decomposing organic contaminants in the effluent by bubbling a gas containing ozone through the effluent; adding a coagulant to increase the particle size of solid particles contained in the effluent; adding a flocculant to increase the particle size of solid particles contained in the effluent, thereby forming floes suspended in the effluent; and filtering the floes from the effluent to produce a filtrate and flocculated solids. The method may further comprise adding the coagulant into a stream of effluent flowing within a first conduit under controlled shear conditions, and adding the flocculant into a stream of effluent containing pin floes flowing within a second conduit under controlled shear conditions. The method may further comprise delivering the effluent containing the suspended floes into a filter through a conduit floating in the effluent contained in the filter.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2012Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignees: Lake Country Fracwater Specialists, LLC, Addleman Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Francis C.
