Abstract: A registration authority (RA) server registers unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their owners/operators (O/O). A UAV is maintained in a flight lock state until a flight plan request from the O/O is approved by the RA, which sends an key-signed approval to unlock the UAV's flight lock. The RA server evaluates a UAV's proposed flight plan based on the attributes of the O/O and UAV, the location and time of the requested flight plan, and a set of flight rules and exclusion zones that are developed in view of privacy assurance, security assurance, flight safety assurance, and ground safety assurance. The flight plan key-signed approval supplied to the UAV by the RA server specifies an inclusion zone that corresponds to a flight plan trajectory to be followed. Once in flight, the UAV maintains real-time knowledge of its position and time to ensure its flight remains within the approved inclusion zone.

Abstract: A learning system of Chinese graphic characters and an information processing method of operating the same are disclosed. An electronic apparatus is connected to an information platform provided by a server and the server is connected to an information system building apparatus through an Internet network. The information system building apparatus acquires graphic element information related to graphic characters and relevance between the graphic element information and the graphic characters. The user logs in the information platform of the server by the electronic apparatus. The information platform includes a character search mode and a Chinese character tree mode. The Chinese character tree mode is executed to produce derivative tree information including the plurality of graphic elements, and the character search mode is executed to produce multi-layer graphic explanation information. The results of executing the two modes are rendered to improve efficiency of learning Chinese characters for the user.

Abstract: Braille cells and assemblies include an actuator that engages and makes readable a Braille dot by rotating about a hinge on a base to engage the dot. An electro-permanent magnet on the rod and a magnetic plate on the underlying base can cause the rotation. By running an electric pulse through the electro-permanent magnet, it will rotate the rod about the pivot hinge under attraction to the magnetic plate at the other end of the base. The rod then engages with a tactile pin contacting the Braille dot and making it readable. An electric pulse in an opposite direction may cause the magnetic field to cease and the tactile pin to disengage. The electro-permanent magnet may be coupled a mesh of rows and columns each with a P-channel MOSFET and N-channel MOSFET on opposite ends. The magnet may be at an intersection of a row and a column with diodes.

Abstract: An orthodontic practice appliance (1) in the present invention includes an orthodontic tooth row (23) for orthodontic practice, an orthodontic gingival part (22) that holds the orthodontic tooth row (23) and is softened by the application of heat, and a metal member (24) that is placed inside the orthodontic gingival part (22) and has an exposure portion exposed to the outside. According to the present invention, when the orthodontic practice appliance (1) is immersed in hot water, the exposed metal member (24) is heated. The metal member (24) extends inside the orthodontic gingival part (22). Therefore, the orthodontic gingival part (22) is heated not only from the surface thereof in direct contact with the hot water but also from inside thereof by heat transmitted through the heated metal plate (24). Accordingly, heat is transmitted to the orthodontic gingival part (22) uniformly.

Abstract: A portable tooth-sensitivity demonstration apparatus and a process. The apparatus includes a main unit with a top cover having at least one tooth station thereon; an electrical circuit, a sensitivity indicator, and an on/off switch. A sensor in the tooth station is part of the electrical circuit to activate a response by the sensitivity indicator. A water-permeable tooth piece, treated with an oral-care product, is placed into the tooth station, and a few drops of water are deposited on top of the tooth piece. Lack of response from the sensitivity indicator shows an absence of sensitivity and hence effectiveness of the oral-care product, while a response from the sensitivity indicator shows existing sensitivity and thus failure of the oral-care product to seal the tooth piece. In an apparatus having multiple tooth stations, different oral-care products can be assessed simultaneously and side-by-side.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are described for providing modularity, tracking and simulation features of a mixed reality simulator. A modular approach to tracking systems, tracked instruments, and interchangeable modular physical models is described. Enhanced indicators and indicator interfaces improve imaging probe and instrument orientation and alignment with respect to a physical target, including but not necessarily within a combined physical and virtual system; these include anisotropy indicators, indicators of alignment in both in-plane and out-of-plane ultrasound or other imaging techniques, and perpendicularity indicators for better placement of probes and instruments over curved surfaces. A universal needle hub is described that integrates tracking system components and simulation feedback components usably with varying needle types.
