Abstract: Tension monitoring is described using a sensor which may exhibit an offset for which compensation may be provided to produce a zero voltage amplified output or to increase dynamic range. An arrangement determines whether a power reset is responsive to a battery bounce such that an initially-measured system start-up parameter can be retained. The start-up parameter is automatically saved at start-up if the power reset is responsive to a start-up from a shut-down condition. The start-up parameter may be a zero tension amplified output responsive to the sensor offset at zero tension. Protection of a tension data set is provided such that no opportunity for altering the data set is presented prior to transfer of the data set. A housing configuration forms part of an electrical power circuit for providing electrical power to an electronics package from a battery.

A sensor that includes a structure having an internal space into which a detection target is capable of flowing, a light-emitting element, and a photo-receptor element is provided. The sensor is disposed so that light emitted from the light-emitting element passes through the internal space to reach the photo-receptor element. A wavelength of the light emitted from the light-emitting element falls within a range from 2.5 ?m to 15 ?m inclusive. A length of the internal space in a direction perpendicular to an extension direction of the structure should preferably be less than or equal to 1000 ?m.

Abstract: A method and system to measure and image the full optical scattering properties by inverse spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (ISOCT) is disclosed. Tissue is modeled as a medium with continuous refractive index (RI) fluctuation and such a fluctuation is described by the RI correlation functions. By measuring optical quantities of tissue (including the scattering power of the OCT spectrum, the reflection albedo ? defined as the ratio of scattering coefficient ?s, and the back-scattering coefficient ?b), the RI correlation function can be inversely deduced and the full set of optical scattering properties can be obtained.

Abstract: An illuminator/collector assembly can deliver incident light to a sample and collect return light returning from the sample. A sensor can measure ray intensities as a function of ray position and ray angle for the collected return light. A ray selector can select a first subset of rays from the collected return light at the sensor that meet a first selection criterion. In some examples, the ray selector can aggregate ray intensities into bins, each bin corresponding to rays in the collected return light that traverse within the sample an estimated optical path length within a respective range of optical path lengths. A characterizer can determine a physical property of the sample, such as absorptivity, based on the ray intensities, ray positions, and ray angles for the first subset of rays. Accounting for variations in optical path length traversed within the sample can improve accuracy.

The method comprises optionally diluting and/or purifying the sample, and allowing the sample interact with a reagent comprising lanthanide(III) ion. The sample is excited at a first excitation wavelength and a sample signal deriving from the lanthanide(III) ion is detected at a signal wavelength by using time-resolved luminescence measurement. The total concentration of the first and the second scale inhibitor is determined by using the detected sample signal, and the concentration of the first scale inhibitor in the sample is determined. The concentration of the second scale inhibitor is determined mathematically by using the obtained results for the total concentration and for the first scale inhibitor concentration.
