Abstract: In the prior art, plural detectors are arranged in order to specify the incident direction of neutron, and in principle for specifying the incident direction, the positions for arranging the detectors are predetermined or restricted, so that there is no flexibility in the arrangement. This causes large restriction on the appearance or the shape of a detector in designing, and it is difficult to adopt such a technique particularly for a wearable detector requiring a sufficient flexibility in shape to cope with the change of appearance shape. By using plural neutron detection parts set to a moderator such as a human body, a water-containing substance, polyethylene or the like, and comparing the counts at the detection parts, the direction of a neutron radiation source can be specified.

Abstract: Techniques of providing illumination to a head-mounted display (HMD) involve providing off-board illumination apart from the HMD. An off-board illumination unit delivers the illumination to the HMD via optical fibers. The optical fibers are lightweight and do not restrict motion of a user. Because the power source is less restricted, the off-board illumination unit provides flexibility in the hardware used to generate the illumination. For example, the illumination unit may use red, green, and blue narrow-band diode lasers. Further, by controlling modes in the fiber and providing additional light-guiding hardware, the angles at which light strikes LCD pixels may be largely restricted to certain specified angles. Restricted angles of incidence enable the use of fast-switching liquid crystals without degrading the image quality. Such a restriction allows for high-resolution imaging using rapid switching of the liquid crystal which enables very low latencies.

Abstract: An integrated circuit includes optical waveguides defined in a semiconductor layer, and uses removable optical taps to allow for in-process characterization and trimming. These optical waveguides may be trimmed during fabrication of the integrated circuit to improve performance. Note that the trimming may modify indexes of refraction of portions of the optical waveguides or may involve a more invasive process. Moreover, the trimming may exclude or may not involve the use of a polymer and/or the carrier wavelengths at a given temperature may be stable as a function of time. The trimming process may use removable optical taps for external feedback to determine the amount of change required. These optical taps may be formed either in the semiconductor layer or the cladding layer, and they may be disabled with negligible impact to device performance via alterations to the cladding layer after the completion of trimming.

Abstract: An optical fiber connector includes an inner shell, an outer shell, and a handle. The outer shell is fitted over the inner shell. Two clamping arms are respectively extending from two ends of a side portion of the handle. Accordingly, since the handle and the outer shell are in a point-contact configuration, when a user pulls the handle, the handle drives the outer shell to move backwardly via the configuration and further compress the spring in the inner shell. Therefore, the connector can be detached from the fiber adapter. Conversely, when the user pushes the handle, the push block on the handle pushes the tail cap due to the mating between the push block and the tail cap, so that the optical fiber connector can be inserted into the fiber adapter.
