Abstract: A method and system is provided for laser piercing of thick plate material that allows for rapid transition to a cutting operation that can reliably produce a piercing hole and complete a cutting operation of the intended shape in a short time, while improving the cutting quality of the cutting after switching from the piercing operation. The cutting nozzle has a centrally located laser. The piercing operation applies a laser beam to the cut work while axially supplied pure oxygen gas is applied towards the cutting work. Additionally, a direction controlled nozzle adjacent the main cutting port provides a discharge of high pressure compressed air non-axially relative to the cutting operation to clear excess molten metal and debris from the kerf thereby increasing the efficiency of the piercing and shortening the cycle time.

Abstract: A method of laser welding a workpiece stack-up that includes two or three overlapping aluminum alloy workpieces involves constraining a free end of an overlapping portion of a first aluminum alloy workpiece against movement away from an underlying second aluminum alloy workpiece to counteract the thermally-induced forces that cause out-of-plane deformation of one or more of the aluminum alloy workpieces during laser welding. Such constraint of the free end of the first aluminum alloy workpiece may be accomplished by clamping, spot welding, or any other suitable practice. By constraining the free end of the first aluminum alloy workpiece, and thus inhibiting out-of-plane deformation of the aluminum alloy workpieces when laser welding is practiced in a nearby welding region, the occurrence of hot cracking is minimized or altogether eliminated in the final laser weld joint.

Abstract: This invention provides a method for manufacturing a decorated part having a dynamic visual effect of a design that is drawn onto the surface of a work, thus reducing the manufacturing cost. The decorated part is manufactured by a laser-irradiating process, which involves irradiating a laser onto a decorative surface 4, thus forming a design 20 having many laser-processed linear grooves 21 closely aligned in a specific direction F1 on said decorative surface. Also, in the laser-irradiating process, said design 20 is formed such that the angle ?2 that is made by the specific direction F1 and by the direction F2 in which the laser-processed linear grooves 21 are extending is gradually changing into the direction in which such laser-processed linear grooves are aligned.

Abstract: An arm supporting exoskeleton comprises a shoulder base coupled to an arm link mechanism. The arm link mechanism comprises a proximal link and a distal link configured to rotate relative to each other about a rotating joint; at least one arm-coupler adapted to couple a user's arm to the distal link; a tensile force generator coupled to the proximal link and the distal link, and providing a torque to flex the distal link relative to the proximal link; and a protrusion located substantially at the rotating joint. When the distal link extends past a toggle angle, the protrusion constrains the tensile force generator, and the torque provided by the tensile force generator remains substantially small, When the protrusion does not constrain the tensile force generator, the torque tends to flex the distal link relative to the proximal link, thereby reducing human shoulder forces and torques required to raise the arm.

Abstract: An unmanned conveyance vehicle includes a monitoring section which includes, as monitoring regions for detecting obstacles, a first monitoring region and a second monitoring region which is capable of detecting obstacles that are more distant than the first monitoring region, and a light emitting section which emits light in the first monitoring region, in which when an obstacle is detected within the first monitoring region, a vehicle is caused to perform an emergency stop. Ordinarily, when the unmanned conveyance vehicle stops the light emission of the light emitting section and detects an obstacle within the second monitoring region, the unmanned conveyance vehicle causes the light emitting section to emit light. Accordingly, when an operator enters the second monitoring region, the operator is capable of recognizing a distance at which, when reached by the unmanned conveyance vehicle, the unmanned conveyance vehicle will perform the emergency stop.
