Publication number: 20180118291Abstract: A track system comprising a dynamic tensioning device located between an idler wheel and the support frame as to apply proper tension in the track. The dynamic tensioning device is adapted to block at its current length upon the occurrence of a determined condition. The dynamic tensioner is adapted to substantially maintain its length when an acceleration and or deceleration of the track system reaches a predetermined value. For instance, such characteristic is relevant in an event of emergency braking. A dynamic tensioner would become contracted and the tension in the endless track would become too low. A low tension could cause the endless track to ratchet.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2016Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: Yves SAUVAGEAU, Andre LEGER

Publication number: 20180118292Abstract: An embodiment is developed for a cylindrically shaped, elliptical rolling robot that has the ability to morph its outer surface as it rolls. The morphing actuation alters lengths of the major and minor axes, resulting in a torque imbalance that rolls the robot along faster or brakes its motion. A control scheme is implemented, whereby angular position and horizontal velocity are used as feedback to trigger and define morphing actuation. A goal of the control scheme is to cause the robot to follow a given velocity profile comprised of steps and ramps. Equations of motion for the rolling robot are formulated, which include rolling resistance torque caused by deformation of the outer surface tread. A computer program solves the equations of motion, and resulting plots show that by automatically morphing its shape in a periodic fashion, the rolling robot is able to commence from an initial position, achieve constant average velocity and slow itself.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2016Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: KELLY REHM, MICHAEL GERALD PUOPOLO

In the retracted position, the vane is closely aligned with the free stream velocity.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2017Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: Anat BORDOLEY, Brian J. Publication number: 20180118333Abstract: A drive system for an aircraft landing gear, the drive system including a pinion gear, a drive shaft arranged to rotate the pinion gear about a drive axis, a driven gear arranged to mesh with the pinion gear to be rotatable by the pinion gear, the driven gear being connectable to a wheel of the landing gear to be capable of rotating the wheel about a wheel axis; and a flexible interface. The flexible interface includes a plurality of driven gear coupling members, each driven gear coupling member having a first connection portion attached to the driven gear, a second connection portion adapted to be attached to the wheel at an offset distance from the wheel axis, and a joint between the first connection portion and the second connection portion, the joint permitting relative movement between the first connection portion and the second connection portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2017Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventor: Arnaud DIDEY

Publication number: 20180118334Abstract: An aircraft has a fuselage, a first rotor assembly having a first rotor hub and first rotor blades pivotably coupled to the first rotor hub and a second rotor assembly having a second rotor hub and second rotor blades pivotably coupled to the second rotor hub. The first and second rotor blades have deployed configurations extending generally radially from the fuselage and stowed configurations extending generally parallel with the fuselage. A sequencing cam, positioned between the first and second rotor hubs, is coupled to the second rotor blades. The sequencing cam has a retracted orientation when the second rotor blades are in the stowed configuration and an extended orientation when the second rotor blades are in the deployed configuration in which the sequencing cam props support arms of the first rotor blades preventing transition of the first rotor blades from the deployed configuration to the stowed configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2016Publication date: May 3, 2018Applicant: Bell Helicopter Textron Inc.Inventors: Frank Bradley Stamps, Eric Ricardo Gonzalez

Publication number: 20180118335Abstract: In one embodiment, a magnetic orientation detent includes a motor coupled to a motor shaft, the motor mechanically coupled to a motor mount. The magnetic orientation detent may also include a flywheel mechanically coupled to a distal end of the motor shaft. The magnetic orientation detent may further include a first plurality of magnets coupled to the motor mount and a second plurality of magnets coupled to the flywheel. The second plurality of magnets couple magnetically to the first plurality of magnets.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2016Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: Dustin Eli Gamble, Gordon Jennings, Justin Neel

Publication number: 20180118336Abstract: An aircraft system includes a wing member and a plurality of unmanned aircraft systems selectively connectable to the wing member. The wing member has a generally airfoil cross-section, a leading edge and a trailing edge. The unmanned aircraft systems have a connected flight mode while coupled to the wing member and an independent flight mode when detached from the wing member. In the connected flight mode, the unmanned aircraft systems are operable to provide propulsion to the wing member to enable flight. The unmanned aircraft systems are operable to be launched from the wing member to perform aerial missions in the independent flight mode and are operable to be recovered by the wing member and returned to the connected flight mode. Thereafter, in the connected flight mode, the unmanned aircraft systems are operable to be resupplied by the wing member.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2016Publication date: May 3, 2018Applicant: Bell Helicopter Textron Inc.Inventors: Joseph Scott Drennan, John William Lloyd, Frank Bradley Stamps, Brett Rodney Zimmerman

Publication number: 20180118337Abstract: A computer-implemented method for managing the flight of a drone comprising a physical treatment device, the method comprises the steps repeated over time of measuring the distance between the drone and an object present in the environment of the drone; adjusting the distance from the drone to the object according to predefined internal parameters; and performing a physical treatment on the object from the drone. Developments describe the management of distances to objects, surface tracking, object recognition, the installation of beacons in the environment, the use of on-board or remotely accessed sensors (e.g. position and contact sensors, cameras, motion detectors) and various types of treatment (e.g. cleaning, dusting, sterilization). Both software aspects (e.g. learning, central or distributed logic, autonomy, cooperation with floor robots) and system aspects (addition of a fan, brush, duster or germicidal lamp) are described.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2015Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventor: Pierre Emmanuel VIEL

Publication number: 20180118338Abstract: Apparatus, methods and systems to associate a flight plan of an unmanned aerial vehicle (e.g., a drone) with a cryptographic signature are disclosed herein. Some disclosed examples include one or more non-transitory computer-readable media including computer-executable instructions. The computer readable instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to compare a flight path over a geographic area of an unmanned aerial vehicle to a geographically identified no-fly zone. The flight path is included in a flight plan. The instructions also cause the vehicle to determine whether the flight path enters the geographically identified no-fly zone, and based on whether the flight path is determined to enter the geographically identified no-fly zone, associate the flight plan with a cryptographic signature.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2017Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: Simon Hunt, Venkata Ramanan Sambandam, Samir Shah
