Abstract: An apparatus for locating an embedded passive integrated transponder (PIT) tag is provided. An embodiment of the locating apparatus includes a resonator capable of electromagnetically coupling to the PIT tag, and a feedback circuit connected to the resonator and configured to monitor a load conductance of the resonator. A distance between the resonator and the PIT tag is indicated by a change in the monitored load conductance when the resonator and the PIT tag are electromagnetically coupled. Another embodiment includes a resonator capable of stimulating a response signal from a PIT tag, and a processing circuit capable of calculating the distance between the resonator and the PIT tag based on the amplitude of the response signal.

The apparatus can be configured in three forms: a horizontal, vertical, or butterfly motion control device. Each configuration comprises a static member and a moving member, in which the moving member operates to move or be moved by the subject being studied. Also disclosed are processes for using each apparatus to measure of the relative motion of skeletal structures in a subject, in which the subject is positioned in the apparatus and commanded to move while diagnostic medical images are taken or captured. Additionally, processes for using each apparatus to specifically measure and collect data on the function of the subject's muscles are disclosed.

Abstract: A biosensor identifies a blood type using photoplethysmography (PPG) technology. A PPG circuit obtains a plurality of spectral responses at a plurality of wavelengths detected from skin of a user. A processing circuit determines a blood factor indicator using the plurality of spectral responses. The blood factor indicator may include a signal quality parameter or a ratio R value. A calibration database includes a correlation of the blood factor indicator to a plurality of blood types. The blood blood type of the user is identified using the blood factor indicator and the calibration database.

Abstract: Differences of electromagnetic (EM) properties between healthy and cancerous tissues allow detection of abnormal conditions occurring in a tissue of an animal, for example, intra-operative cancer detection. By using a time-varying EM field, electrical eddy currents are generated in the tissue sample, and assessed using phase-sensitive detection. In some aspects, a change in phase shift between the voltage in a receiver coil and the voltage in a driver coil provide a direct and immediate indication of differences in EM properties of specimens.

Abstract: A patient visualization system having a processor may be communicatively coupled to a pressure sensor device to periodically receive pressure sensor data. The processor may determine a body position according to the pressure sensor data, and associate sensor data to body areas of the subject according to the body position. The associated sensor data may include sensor data indicative of an absence of pressure sensor data associated with one or more of the number of body areas. The processor may track pressure experienced by the body areas of the subject over a period of time to determine a pressure to the body areas over the period of time.

Abstract: A method is described for generating contrast medium-aided CT image data from an examination region of a patient. At least two sets of projection measurement data assigned to different X-ray energy spectra are acquired from the examination region. At least two different contrast media are present simultaneously during the acquisition in the examination region. Furthermore, at least two separate image datasets are reconstructed based upon the at least two sets of projection measurement data with the aid of a multi-material decomposition. Each of the at least two separate image datasets is assigned to one of the at least two contrast media and the materials according to which decomposition takes place are the respective contrast media. Additionally a method for analyzing morphological and/or functional parameters assigned to different contrast media in an examination region of a patient is described. Furthermore an image reconstruction device and a computed tomography system is described.

Abstract: A method for operating a medical imaging apparatus includes acquiring an intensity distribution of an X-ray radiation by a first X-ray detector assigned to a first radiation source. A scattered radiation distribution of scattered radiation generated at the object is acquired by a second X-ray detector. A spatial distribution for the component of the scattered radiation is estimated based on the scattered radiation distribution acquired by the second X-ray detector. An intensity distribution of the component of the transmitted primary X-ray radiation is determined from the intensity distribution acquired by the first X-ray detector depending on the estimated spatial distribution.
