Abstract: A method for determining spatial distribution of permeability in a subsurface formation using passive seismic signals includes determining a spatial distribution of a fracture network generated by the pumping of hydraulic fracturing fluid using detected seismic signals resulting from the pumping. A bulk permeability of the fracture network is determined using the detected seismic signals. A formation permeability is determined in each cell of a cellular grid containing the fracture network resulting from the pumping of the hydraulic fracturing fluid. The calculated formation permeability in each cell is then scaled such that the average formation permeability is substantially equal to the bulk permeability to calculate the permeability distribution.

Abstract: Receiver-consistent scalars of seismic receiver channels are used for time-lapse monitoring of a sub-surface earth formation. Signals are induced by seismic waves propagating through the earth formation adjacent to each respective seismic receiver channel. Each seismic receiver channel is acoustically coupled to the earth formation as present directly adjacent to the location of the seismic receiver channel in question. The base receiver-consistent scalars and the monitor receiver-consistent scalars of seismic receiver channels can be outputted to reveal changes in these receiver-consistent scalars. These changes can be used to delineate information about physical changes in the subsurface earth formation. The changes in the based receiver-consistent scalars and the monitor receiver-consistent scalars may be displayed visually.

Abstract: A multicore optical fiber includes a cladding and multiple cores disposed in the cladding. Each core has a light-guiding path and follows a helical trajectory about a fiber axis. The multicore fiber also includes a set of discrete lateral coupling zones, which are longitudinally distributed and azimuthally aligned with respect to the fiber axis. Each lateral coupling zone forms an optical coupling path, which enables at least one of lateral in-coupling and out-coupling of light between a corresponding one of the cores and an exterior of the multicore fiber. An optical probing system for light delivery to and/or light collection from a probed region includes a multicore optical fiber to enable coupling of guided light out of the cores for delivery to the probed region and/or collection of light from the probed region for coupling into one of the cores.

Abstract: A telecommunications module comprises a housing including a main housing portion defining an interior formed by first and second sidewalls, a bottom wall, a front wall, and a rear wall. A removable cover mounts to the main housing to define a top wall. The interior defines separate right and left chambers. A fiber optic component is housed within the left chamber. A signal input location for receiving an input signal for processing by the component and a signal output location for exiting an output signal are both exposed to the right chamber, wherein both the signal input and output locations are defined by the front wall. Cables carrying the input and output signals are fixed via crimp assemblies at the signal input and output locations. An excess fiber length formed when an outer jacket of the cables contracts more than the fiber due to temperature variations is accommodated by the right chamber to allow the excess fiber length to accumulate without bending in a radius smaller than a minimum bend radius.
