  • Patent number: 10071246
Abstract: A signal processing arrangement generates electrode stimulation signals to stimulation contacts in a cochlear implant electrode array. A signal filter bank transforms an input sound signal into band pass signals, which each represent an associated frequency band of audio frequencies. A signal processing module processes the band pass signals in a sequence of sampling time frames, wherein for each time frame, the processing includes performing a spectral feature analysis of the band pass signals, and dynamically assigning a stimulation focus pattern to one or more of the band pass signals based on the spectral feature analysis. A stimulation coding module is configured to code the processed band pass signals for each time frame to produce the electrode stimulation signals for delivery by the stimulation contacts to a region of adjacent auditory neural tissues.

  • Patent number: 10071248
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining optimized settings for a closed-loop stimulation system based on analyzing a phase response curve measured from electrophysiological activity, such as electrical nerve activity or electrical muscle activity. The slope of the phase response curve is computed and used to determine a phase window during which phasic burst stimulation should be provided to achieve a desired effect on oscillations in the subject. When the slope of the phase response curve is positive, a phasic burst stimulation applied during the phase window will decrease synchrony of the oscillations. When the slope of the phase response curve is negative, a phasic burst stimulation applied during the phase window will increase synchrony of the oscillations.

  • Patent number: 10071250
Abstract: Methods and devices for reducing ventricle filling volume are disclosed. In some embodiments, an electrical stimulator may be used to stimulate a patient's heart to reduce ventricle filling volume or even blood pressure. When the heart is stimulated in a consistent way to reduce blood pressure, the cardiovascular system may over time adapt to the stimulation and revert back to the higher blood pressure. In some embodiments, the stimulation pattern may be configured to be inconsistent such that the adaptation response of the heart is reduced or even prevented. In some embodiments, an electrical stimulator may be used to stimulate a patient's heart to cause at least a portion of an atrial contraction to occur while the atrioventricular valve is closed. Such an atrial contraction may deposit less blood into the corresponding ventricle than when the atrioventricular valve is opened throughout an atrial contraction.

  • Patent number: 10071255
Abstract: The invention relates to a monitoring system for monitoring a third-party device, in particular a medical device, wherein the third-party device has a signal device for displaying the device status and/or relevant device properties and the monitoring device (2) is associated with the third-party device. Based upon this prior art, in the context of the invention monitoring of the third-party device should be possible and should also operate when the actual status indication of the monitored third-party device is defective. In this connection within the context of the monitoring system according to the invention it is not the status indication of the devices but rather a current proportional to the device status within the monitored third-party device is inductively sensed, evaluated and optionally an emergency signal is detected as a function of the result of the evaluation. The invention also relates to monitoring defibrillators.

  • Patent number: 10071256
Abstract: Several defibrillators, defibrillator architectures, defibrillator components and methods of operating defibrillators are described. In one aspect, a defibrillator (as for example an automated external defibrillator) that can be powered by a mobile communication device such as a smart cellular phone or a tablet computer is described. Utilizing a phone (or other mobile communication device) as the power supply for an external defibrillator allows the external defibrillator to be smaller and, in some circumstance, removes the need for a battery that stores sufficient energy for shock delivery—which would need to be checked and/or replaced on a regular basis. Additionally, when desired, certain control functionality, computation, data processing, and user instructions can be handled/presented by the mobile communications device thereby further simplifying the defibrillator design and improving the user experience.

  • Patent number: 10071257
Abstract: A method for extinguishing a cardiac arrhythmia utilizes destructive interference of the passing of the reentry wave tip of an anatomical reentry through a depolarized region created by a relatively low voltage electric field in such a way as to effectively unpin the anatomical reentry. Preferably, the relatively low voltage electric field is defined by at least one unpinning shock(s) that are lower than an expected lower limit of vulnerability as established, for example, by a defibrillation threshold test. By understanding the physics of the electric field distribution between cardiac cells, the method permits the delivery of an electric field sufficient to unpin the core of the anatomical reentry, whether the precise or estimated location of the reentry is known or unknown and without the risk of inducting ventricular fibrillation. A number of embodiments for performing the method are disclosed.

Abstract: Systems and methods track a first object when continuous tracking information for the first object is not available. The systems and methods detect when the tracking information for the first object is not available. A last time of a last determined location of the first object is determined and a second object closest to the last determined location at the last time is determined. The location of the first object is associated with a location of the second object if tracking information for the first object is not available.

  • Patent number: 10071283
Abstract: A variable-color region (106) of a sports-playing structure of an information-presentation structure extends to an exposed surface (102) at a surface zone (112), normally appears along it as a principal color, and includes impact-sensitive and color-change components (182 and 184). A boundary line (1306/1308 or 1386/1388) extends along an in-bounds area (1302 or 1382) of the surface. A segment (192) of the impact-sensitive component responds to an object (104) impacting the zone at an object-contact area (116) by providing an impact effect if the impact meets threshold impact criteria. A segment (194) of the color-change component responds to the impact effect by causing an impact-dependent portion (138) of the region to temporarily appear along a print area (118) of the zone as changed color materially different from the principal color. The zone typically adjoins the boundary line or an internal line (1334 or 1396).

Abstract: Systems and methods are for determining and indicating a desired corrective change in exercise technique to an operator and optionally for determining and indicating a correct or incorrect fit between an operator and an exercise equipment. The systems comprise an exercise apparatus that is engaged by an operator at least a first contact location; a first load sensor device that senses an operator-applied load amount at the first contact location; a controller that determines a desired corrective change in exercise technique and/or the correct or incorrect fit between the operator and the exercise equipment based at least upon the operator-applied load amount at the first contact location and a current body weight of the operator; and an indicator device that indicates the desired corrective change in exercise technique and/or correct or incorrect fit, for example to an operator or an instructor.

Abstract: A swim fin may include a foot pocket configured to receive a foot of a swimmer and a fin blade extending from the foot pocket. The fin blade may be relatively stiff and flex about a hinge region proximate the foot pocket. Fin rails may extend along the lateral edges of the fin blade. The fin rails may include a fin spine comprising a plurality of fin spine segments joined in linear configuration. The swim fin may be configured to provide a swim fin with predetermined hydrodynamic characteristics. The swim fin may flex within a maximum angle of attack that may be variable and dynamically changed, within the predetermined maximum attack angle range, as a function of the kicking force generated by a swimmer during a kicking cycle.

  • Patent number: 10071290
Abstract: A ball striking device, such as a golf club head, includes a face having a ball striking surface configured for striking a ball and a body connected to the face and extending rearwardly from the face. The body has an impact-influencing structure positioned adjacent at least one peripheral edge of the face. A majority of a force generated by impact with a ball is absorbed by the impact-influencing structure, and a majority of a response force generated by the head upon impact with the ball is generated by the impact-influencing structure. The face may have increased stiffness as compared to existing faces, and may include a stiffening structure to create the increased stiffness. In one embodiment, the face may have a stiffness proximate the geometric center that is from about 46,000 to 56,000 lb-in2.
