Abstract: Aspects of spectrometer secondary reference calibration are described. In one embodiment, a diagnostic measurement for evaluation of an aspect of calibration in spectroscopy is performed. A result of the diagnostic measurement is analyzed to determine a deviation from an expected result. Based on the analysis, a correction algorithm may be applied to the aspect of calibration, in view of the deviation. In some embodiments, a product model diagnostic measurement is also performed for further evaluation of the aspect of calibration. A result of the product model diagnostic measurement is analyzed to determine a product model deviation from an expected result of the product model diagnostic measurement, and a product model correction algorithm is applied, if necessary. According to aspects of the embodiments described herein, using secondary reference standards permits reconstruction of calibration parameters without any need for a master instrument or other forms of calibrated reference instrumentation.

Abstract: A device and principal method for measuring flow through a pipe for liquid and compressed gas. In an embodiment, the device is comprised of eccentric disk, rotation sensor, torque/stress sensor, coil spring, track rod, supports, and a digital processor. The processor determines the flow based on measured torque/stress, rotation, and other pre-determined parameters and relationship equations. The processor also provides data communication with other controllers and human-machine interface devices. In one simplified option, the arm may be fixed in one position and the rotation sensor is eliminated. In another simplified option, the torque sensor is removed. The compression of coil spring is measured by the rotation sensor. The torque is then determined using the coil spring performance and measured coil spring compression. The torque based flowmeter can be implemented to any industrial corrosive liquids, water, and gas with or without suspended solids.

Abstract: Problem to be Solved To select a marker peak which characterizes a difference between groups, even when the number of samples belonging to each group is small. Solution A peak matrix is created based on the peaks detected from mass spectra of a plurality of samples belonging to a plurality of groups (S1-S3). Each row of the peak matrix represents a peak-intensity distribution for a large number of samples at one mass-to-charge-ratio value. If there is no difference between the groups at a certain mass-to-charge-ratio value, the peak-intensity distribution at that mass-to-charge-ratio value should be a lognormal distribution (or normal distribution). Accordingly, a hypothesis test for the conformity of the peak-intensity distribution to the lognormal distribution is performed for each mass-to-charge-ratio value (S5). A mass-to-charge-ratio value at which a significant difference has been found is selected as a candidate of the marker peak (S6).

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to measuring an external temperature using a computing device. In one case, a model for measuring the external temperature may be derived. A solution of the model may be compared with at least one data quantity of a plurality of data quantities to determine a difference between the solution of the model and the at least one of the plurality of data quantities. One or more parameters of the model may be fit such that the difference between the solution of the model and the at least one of the plurality of data quantities is minimized. The external temperature may be measured using the solution of the model.

Abstract: A fabric-based pressure sensor assembly utilizing in ionic material and conductive material is disclosed. The sensing device can be applied in several various wearable health and biomedical applications on complex body topologies. As an alternative to conventional flexible sensors, the fabric-based sensor assembly yields high device sensitivity and desirable parameters for pressure sensing in a wearable construct. The sensor assembly enables rapid mechanical responses (in the milliseconds range) for high-frequency biomechanical signals, e.g., blood pressure pulses and body movements. The fabrication process for the device is low-cost highly compatible with existing industrial manufacturing processes.

Abstract: A three-layer self-healing flexible strain sensor includes: a self-healing sensitive layer, wherein a self-healing encapsulating layer is respectively placed on an upper surface and a lower surface of the self-healing sensitive layer. The self-healing sensitive layer comprises a doped carbon material or a conductive composite. The three self-healing layers of the self-healing strain sensor can quickly repair the internal and external damage caused by the layered structure in a short period of time after the external damage, and does not require external stimulation. The three-layer self-healing structure strain sensor is simple in preparation without using a repair agent, which can achieve rapid self-repair at the room temperature, and can be repeatedly repair. The three-layer self-healing structure increases the strength and modulus of the strain sensor as well as increases the ability of the strain sensor to resist external damage.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for measuring a force and/or moment on a machine element extending along an axis, using the inverse magnetostrictive effect. The machine element has a magnetization region for magnetization, this region fully encompassing the axis. The arrangement includes at least one first magnetic sensor and one second magnetic sensor, each being designed to measure individually a first and a second direction component of a magnetic field that is caused by the magnetization and by the force and/or the moment. The direction components that can be measured using the first magnetic sensor have differing orientations. Likewise, the direction components that can be measured using the second magnetic sensor have differing orientations. The first magnetic sensor and the second magnetic sensor are arranged around the axis at different peripheral positions.

In one example, the stator includes a first stator ring revolving around the rotation axis, and a second stator ring revolving around the rotation axis and arranged concentrically with the first stator ring. The first and second stator rings include claws which are arranged so as to revolve around the rotation axis and at a distance from one another in the circumferential direction and engage with one another at least on a toothing axial plane. The claws are separated from one another by an air gap so that, when the magnetic field is arranged in the toothing axial plane, the magnetic field is guided towards the stator rings via the claws according to a relative angular position. Each claw has the contour of a mathematically smooth curve when viewed across the circumferential direction.
