Abstract: A chemical reaction heat source for use in heaters used in down-hole applications is provided. The heat source has a fuel composition that comprises thermite and a damping agent. The use of the thermite mix enables the heaters of the present invention to generate hotter temperatures down wells. This in turn allows the use of Bismuth/Germanium alloys, which have higher melting points, to enable the production of plugs for the abandonment of deeper wells where subterranean temperatures are higher.

Abstract: A swell packer sealing element has a wedge on either or both ends that is driven axially when the packer is at the desired borehole location. The wedge releases an end bond of the sealing element and forces the end of the sealing element out radially against the surrounding borehole wall. The actuator for the wedge also forces out an extrusion barrier at the same time. The packer achieves the ability to handle the design differential pressure with aid of the end wedge even as portions of the packer sealing element beyond the end are still swelling into contact with the surrounding borehole wall whether in cased or open hole.

Abstract: A gas separator assembly has a pump inlet that generates an artificial sump in a production casing. The assembly includes an inner casing in series with the production casing of the well and an outer casing supported externally of the inner casing. First and second ports at opposing top and bottom ends of the outer casing communicate from the production casing to an annulus between the inner and outer casings. A barrier supported in the primary passage between the first and second ports diverts flow through the annulus. One or more dissolvable sleeves within the annulus prevents the annulus from filling with material during construction of the casing but dissolves when the sleeves come in contact with wet wellbore fluid.

Embodiment devices are configured such that the throughbore is maximized because of the devices' thin cross sectional length. Embodiment devices may be optimized to expand into larger casing sizes by use of a multi-part cone system while maintaining the thin cross section. Abstract: A method for operating a pressure operated device in a wellbore includes conducting pressurized gas to a power fluid inlet port of a valve at a first pressure. The first pressure is selected to cause a shuttle in the valve to be positioned to enable flow of the pressurized gas through the valve to a power fluid flow port in communication with a power fluid inlet of the pneumatic device. Pressure of the pressurized gas is increased to a second pressure greater than the first pressure, whereby the shuttle moves to close the power fluid inlet port to flow and to vent the power fluid flow port to ambient pressure in the wellbore.
