A plurality of pairs of contact lenses is provided to an adult, typically a therapist or a parent of a child, where the contact lenses have an image of a subject of interest to the child imprinted on the contact lens. The plurality of the pairs of contact lenses provides a series of pairs of contact lenses where the image is gradually faded. An adult interacting with the child begins by wearing contact lenses having an image of greatest intensity. Through a series of therapy sessions with the therapist uses the contact lenses, as the child's duration and frequency of eye contact improves, the therapist will then use lenses with the image of the subject of interest to the child that are gradually faded. When therapeutic goal of the targeted duration and frequency of eye contact is reached, therapy using the contact lenses can be terminated.

Abstract: A microfluidic strain sensing device for monitoring intraocular pressure. The device has a contact lens and a closed microfluidic network embedded with the contact lens. The network has a volume that is sensitive to an applied strain. The network distinguishes: (i) a gas reservoir containing a gas, (ii) a liquid reservoir containing a liquid that changes volume when the strain is applied, and (iii) a sensing channel able to hold the liquid within the sensing channel. The sensing channel connects the gas reservoir on one end and connects the liquid reservoir on another end. The sensing channel establishes a liquid-gas equilibrium pressure to interface and equilibrium within the sensing channel, which would fluidically change as a response to radius of curvature variations on a cornea, or as a response to mechanical stretching and release of the cornea. The liquid-gas equilibrium pressure interface and equilibrium are used for measuring the intraocular pressure.

Abstract: Individuals who suffer from certain kinds of medical conditions, particularly conditions that only sporadically exhibit measurable symptoms, can feel helpless in their attempts to secure access to medical care because, at least in part, they are left to the mercy of their condition to present symptoms at the right time to allow diagnosis and treatment. Providing these individuals with ambulatory extended-wear health monitors that record ECG and physiology, preferably available over-the-counter and without health insurance preauthorization, is a first step towards addressing their needs. In addition, these individuals need a way to gain entry into the health care system once a medically-actionable medical condition has been identified. Abstract: Electrocardiograms can be analyzed in the time-frequency domain, following conversion into time-frequency maps, to determine characteristics or features of various waveforms, such as waveform morphology and/or the amplitude(s) and location(s) (in time and/or frequency) of one or more extrema of the waveform. Based on comparison of the extrema against thresholds and/or against each other, disease conditions may be determined.

Abstract: Cardiac catheterization is carried out by inserting a multi-electrode probe into a heart of a living subject, preparing a current position map of the electrodes to define respective locations of the electrodes, and recording electrograms from the electrodes. Activation times are annotated at the respective locations by analysis of the electrograms and generating an activation map. A region of the activation map is selected and earliest ones of the activation times in the selected region identified. The earliest activation times are graphically indicated.

Abstract: Determining the location of a body area network enabled device on a user's body and using the location information to determine whether to send instructions or data to the device over the body area network, includes integrating an EMG sensor into a device that is wearable or otherwise meant to be in contact with or close proximity to an intended area of a user's body. The integrated EMG sensor may detect the electrical potential of the user's body at the point of contact. Variance of electrical potential across the user's body may be used to determine information regarding the location of the sensor, and thus, the location of the device on the user's body. The location of the device, in turn, may be used to determine whether to send instructions or data to the device over the body area network.

Abstract: Accuracy degradation due to a signal loss is reduced, and susceptibility is calculated with high accuracy where, by using an MRI, at least one echo is acquired where spatial magnetic field inhomogeneity is reflected, and a complex image is calculated from the acquired echo. Three masks are calculated from the calculated complex image; a low-signal region mask representing a low signal region, a first high-signal region mask representing a high signal and high fat content region, and a second high-signal region mask representing a high signal and low fat content region. In calculating a susceptibility image from a frequency image or a magnetic field image generated from the complex image, the susceptibility image is obtained under the constraint that a region defined by the low-signal region is set as a background and the susceptibility of the region defined by the second high-signal region mask is set to a specific value.

Abstract: Analysis of pulmonary scans representative of a patient's pulmonary structure can be used to classify a patient into one or more of a plurality of populations. The patient's scan can be mapped to a reference domain and analyzed to determine one or more fissure features associated with a plurality of regions in the reference domain. Comparison of the determined fissure features with a plurality of fissure atlases, each associated with different population, can be performed to classify the patient into one or more of the populations. Data from different fissure atlases can be compared to determine regions in the fissure atlases that distinguish one population from another. Such distinguishing regions can improve the ability to classify the patient while reducing errors based on false classifications.
