Abstract: A propulsion system includes a rotation member, a first mass and a motor. The rotation member has a length extending between first and second ends and an axle of rotation between the first and second ends transverse to the length. The first mass is coupled with the rotation member at the first end and rotatable relative to the rotation member about a first mass axis. The first motor is configured to, while the rotation member is rotating about the axle of rotation, translate the axle of rotation along a path perpendicular to both the length and the axle of rotation by applying a force to accelerate rotation of the first mass about the first mass axis.

Abstract: An SMA actuation assembly comprising SMA actuator wires connected in tension between a support structure and a movable element is controlled to drive movement of the movable element with respect to the support structure by supplying drive signals to the SMA actuator wire. Target signals representing desired positions of the movable element are set, varying within a predetermined spatial envelope. Measures of resistance of the SMA actuator wires are derived and the power of the drive signals is controlled under closed loop control on the basis of the target signals and feedback signals obtained from the measures of resistance. Electrical characteristics of the SMA actuator wires are monitored and used to detect when a motion limit of the movement is reached. In response thereto, the spatial envelope is adjusted to restrict the movement to be within the detected motion limit.

Abstract: A method for operating a tandem motor linear rod pumping apparatus that includes first and second linear mechanical actuator systems each having a motor, and also includes a rod for a sucker-rod pump. The method calls for constructing the first and second linear mechanical actuator systems to operate within a single housing, and simultaneously operating each of the two motors in a manner that imparts reciprocating vertical motion to respective-vertically movable members of the first and second linear mechanical actuator systems. Each motor has a reversibly rotatable element that is operatively connected to the vertically-movable member of its respective linear mechanical actuator system, thus establishing a fixed relationship between the rotational position of the rotatable element and the vertical position of its respective vertically-movable member. The simultaneous operation of the two motors imparts a reciprocating vertical motion to the pump rod of the sucker-rod pump.

Abstract: A linear actuator for use with a fan with deployable fan blades to deploy the fan blades when in use and stow the fan blades when not in use. The linear actuator utilizes a drive element having a driver that moves linearly along a shaft of the linear actuator. Linear movement of the driver causes radial movement of arms connected to the linear actuator and the fan blades. Radial movement of the arms causes rotational movement of gears attached to the ends of the fan blades to cause the fan blades to rotate into the deployed or stowed configuration.

Abstract: A fan includes a central hub defining an inlet, a motor positioned within the central hub, and an impeller positioned within the central hub. The impeller is operable to be rotated by the motor to generate air movement. The fan also includes a nozzle defining a channel that receives the airflow from the central hub. The nozzle also defines an outlet in communication with the channel to direct air out of the nozzle. The fan further includes a plurality of conduits connecting the nozzle to the central hub to direct air from the central hub to the channel and through the outlet of the nozzle. The nozzle defines a projection aligned with each conduit to divide air movement through the nozzle.

Abstract: An integral motor pump module directs at least 90% of its rotor discharge over at least 50% of its motor housing surface, thereby cooling the motor with little or no need for a separate flow path. The discharge can flow through an annulus formed between the motor and pump housings, and can extend over substantially all of the sides and rear of the motor housing. The rotor can be fixed to a rotating shaft, or rotate about a fixed shaft, which can be threaded into the motor and/or module housing. A plurality of the modules can be combined into a multi-stage pump, with rotor speeds independently controlled by corresponding variable frequency drives. The motor can be a radial or axial permanent magnet or induction motor. A separate cooling flow can provide additional cooling e.g. when pumping heated process fluids. Embodiments include guide vanes and/or diffusers.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of controlling the position of a variable vane in a compressor and a kit for adding such apparatus to the compressor are disclosed. The vane is coupled to a unison ring, a cam is secured to a torque tube, a cam follower is secured to the unison ring. The cam follower is secured such that a wall of the cam follower is in contact with the cam. Rotation of the torque tube causes movement of the cam, and movement of the cam moves the cam follower, thereby moving the unison ring and the variable vane coupled thereto.

Abstract: A fan blade structure of a convection fan includes a fan blade body. The fan blade body includes a central disk secured to the rotating shaft of the motor and multiple blades evenly distributed in a circumferential direction of the central disk. The fan blade body further includes an outer edge frame, the outer edge frame is connected to an outmost side of each of the blades in a radial direction of the central disk. The outer edge frame is connected to an outmost side of the blade in the radial direction of the central disk through the outer edge frame, which makes all the outmost sides of all the blades secured to the outer edge frame, thus the stability of the blade is strengthened, blade deformation in harsh environments is avoided, thereby the balance performance of the fan blade is improved, and the vibration or noise is reduced.
