  • Patent number: 10322500
Abstract: A hinge pin extractor operable to urge a pin out of engagement with a hinge assembly can include a base, a receiver, a plunger, and a lever. The receiver can be mounted to the base to engage a portion of the hinge assembly. The plunger can be mounted to the base and configured to urge a pin of the hinge assembly out of engagement during movement from the first end limit of travel to the second end limit of travel. The lever can be pivotally engaged with the base and disposed to engage the plunger to move the plunger along the rectilinear path. The lever and the base and the plunger can be engaged such that pivoting motion of the lever is transmitted to rectilinear motion of the plunger through a single, fixed fulcrum positioned directly in the base.

  • Patent number: 10322501
Abstract: A fastening tool and method of operating a fastening tool can include a driver, a motor, a flywheel driven by the motor, an actuator, and a controller. The actuator can cause the driver to engage with the flywheel to cause the driver to move along an axis. The controller can selectively operate the motor and selectively operate the actuator. In a first state, the controller will not operate the actuator unless the contact trip switch and the trigger switch are both actuated, the contact trip switch being actuated prior to actuation of the trigger switch, and the flywheel is rotating at a first predetermined speed. When the controller is in the first state, the controller can operate the motor to rotate the flywheel at a second predetermined speed until the earlier of a second predetermined period of time after operation of the actuator, or a subsequent operation of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 10322507
Abstract: Robots have the capacity to perform a broad range of useful tasks, such as factory automation, cleaning, delivery, assistive care, environmental monitoring and entertainment. Enabling a robot to perform a new task in a new environment typically requires a large amount of new software to be written, often by a team of experts. It would be valuable if future technology could empower people, who may have limited or no understanding of software coding, to train robots to perform custom tasks. Some implementations of the present invention provide methods and systems that respond to users' corrective commands to generate and refine a policy for determining appropriate actions based on sensor-data input. Upon completion of learning, the system can generate control commands by deriving them from the sensory data. Using the learned control policy, the robot can behave autonomously.

  • Patent number: 10322538
Abstract: An apparatus and process for molding workpieces usable for consumer products. The workpieces may be injection molded with a cavity formed by a core pin and have an undercut, such as internal threads, in the cavity. The apparatus has a drive system with a stripper plate mounted for alternatingly forward and retracting axial movement. The stripper plate is axially driven and drives a stripper sleeve barrel cam and a core pin base barrel cam, each having respective cam followers. The respective motions of the cam followers are superimposed on a stripper sleeve insert, which drives a core pin sleeve. The core pin sleeve is subjected to responsive three-dimensional motion, allowing an internally threaded workpiece to be unscrewed from the core pin sleeve. The system does not require separate drives for the core pin sleeve and further allows each mold cavity/core pin combination in a mold half to be unique.

Abstract: Nanoporous silica particles having a plurality of pores are mixed with a protective liquid which fills the pores to provide a protected particle mixture. The protected particle mixture is combined with a resin to provide a liquid coating precursor composition. The coating precursor composition is applied to the substrate, and the protective liquid is evaporated. The evaporating protective liquid forms a plurality of passages through the resin. Some of the passages percolate to an outer surface of the resin. Some of the nanoporous particles are distributed at walls of the passages, some of the nanoporous particles are embedded within the resin, and some of the nanoporous particles extend beyond the outer surface of the resin to form a superhydrophobic surface. The resin is cured to solidify the resin and to adhere the resin to the surface and to the particles. A composition and an article are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for calibrating a deposition rate in an aerosol jet printer. The method includes providing a substrate defining an array of wells, each defining a volume. The method also includes defining a toolpath such that a dispensing nozzle passes over the wells. The method also includes defining a dwell time such that the nozzle remains centered above each well for an amount of time equal to the dwell time, after which the nozzle follows the toolpath to be centered over the following well. The dwell time defines a deposition rate based on the volume of the wells. The method also includes causing the nozzle to move along the toolpath, depositing material into the wells. The method also includes observing one of overfilling and underfilling and adjusting dispensing parameters to effect a modified deposition rate, until the wells are being filled to within a tolerance of exactly full.
