  • Patent number: 10330345
Abstract: A mechanical solar tracking and solar concentrating system having a Fresnel lens, moving frame, track, retaining mechanism, and solar collector. The lens focuses solar energy at the collector; the frame holds the collector and lens, keeping them aligned as the frame rotates; the track guides the frame to maintain a perpendicular orientation to the Sun; the solar collector receives the Sun's rays; and the retaining mechanism releases at established intervals, allowing the frame to rotate to the next location. The cycle repeats, tracking the Sun and concentrating its rays at a focal point, to generate temperatures at the focal point in excess of 500° C. These high temperatures can be exploited in several applications, such as producing drinking water from dirty water; cooking food; disinfecting medical instruments; accelerating fermentation of certain types of flora to produce electricity; generating work for generic purposes; etc.

  • Patent number: 10330346
Abstract: When a roof tile provided with a hole is manufactured, first a non-cured composition 11 is fed between two facing mold surfaces 13b and 15b of two mold halves 13 and 15 after which the two mold halves are brought together. The mold surface 13b of one of the two mold halves 13 is provided with a bulge 17 which has a thickness 19 that is smaller than the distance 21 between the two mold surfaces 13b and 15b at the location of this bulge in the state of the mold halves brought together. As a result, the roof tile obtains a thin part 23 at the location of this bulge 17. After the pressing operation the two mold halves 13 and 15 are taken apart and the composition 11 is cured. Once the roof tile 1 has cured, the thin part 23 is broken away from the roof tile and in this manner the hole 5 in the roof tile is formed.

  • Patent number: 10330348
Abstract: Techniques are provided for extracting geothermal energy, by providing salt into a well shaft that ends in a chamber in the Earth surrounded by a source of geothermal energy. The salt melts and heats up to the temperature within the chamber. The hot molten salt is then extracted and the heat from the molten salt is used as a source of energy to generate electricity or drive an industrial process. The salt can be re-used once the heat is extracted in a closed-loop system. According to some techniques, the salt is conveyed down the well by a pneumatic conveyer system or in other cases by using a mechanical system, such as a screw drive. Once returned to the surface, the molten salt can be used to heat graphite blocks for energy storage or be stored and transported to remote locations to extract the heat energy.

  • Patent number: 10330352
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a controller turns a heat pump system on in heating mode or cooling mode and determines a position for the heat pump system's reversing valve based on an O/B setting. The O/B setting indicates to configure the reversing valve in a first position that causes refrigerant to flow in a first direction when in heating mode and in a second position that causes the refrigerant to flow in a second, opposite direction when in cooling mode. The controller determines whether to maintain or reverse the O/B setting. If the heat pump system heats while in the heating mode or cools while in the cooling mode, the O/B setting is maintained. If the heat pump system cools while in the heating mode or heats while in the cooling mode, the O/B setting is reversed.

  • Patent number: 10330363
Abstract: A lubricant separator is disclosed. The lubricant separator can cause lubricant which is entrained with a heat transfer fluid (e.g., a lubricant—heat transfer fluid mixture) to coalesce and fall (e.g., via gravity) into a bottom portion of a lubricant tank assembly. The lubricant separator can also reduce a velocity of the lubricant—heat transfer fluid mixture as it enters the lubricant tank assembly. The velocity reduction can, for example, reduce an amount of splashing of the lubricant that occurs as the lubricant—heat transfer fluid mixture enters the lubricant tank assembly. The velocity reduction can also, for example, be relatively more conducive to lubricant droplets falling into the bottom portion of the lubricant tank assembly as the flow of the heat transfer fluid is provided to a heat transfer fluid return conduit of the lubricant tank assembly.

Abstract: A method and plant for discharging components that are less volatile than oxygen from an air separation plant that contains a main heat exchanger a side condenser and a two-column distillation column system for nitrogen-oxygen separation. The side condenser is constructed as a condenser-evaporator and is arranged in a vessel. A part of the feed air is cooled in the main heat exchanger and liquefied at least in part in the side condenser. A first oxygen fraction is withdrawn in the liquid state from the low-pressure column, introduced into the vessel of the side condenser and in part vaporized. A purge stream is taken off from the bottom of the vessel in the liquid state and discharged or withdrawn as end product. The vessel has a mass transfer section above the side condenser, which mass transfer section corresponds to more than one theoretical plate and fewer than 10 theoretical plates.
