Abstract: A solid reagent containment unit is formed by a support; a frame body fixed to the support and delimiting internally, together with the support, an analysis volume; a reagent-adhesion structure within the analysis volume; and at least one reagent cavity, which extends within the reagent-adhesion structure. The reagent-adhesion structure is of an adhesion material embossable at temperatures lower by 6-8° C. than its own melting point and has a melting point such as not to interfere with the analysis. The reagent cavity forms a retention wall, laterally surrounding the reagent cavity, and houses dried reagents. The adhesion material is chosen among wax, such as paraffin, a polymer, such as polycaprolactone, a solid fat, such as cocoa butter, and a gel, such as hydrogel or organogel.

Abstract: A field portable diagnostic apparatus uses a rotatable disk in which a microfluidic circuit is defined. The microfluidic circuit includes a centrifugal separation chamber receiving a sample to stratify the sample. A magnetic bead holding chamber is communicated to a mixing chamber, where mass amplifying functionalized magnetic-nanoparticles, held in a buffer solution and contained in the magnetic bead holding reservoir communicated to mixing chamber, are mixed with the separated fluid delivered to mixing chamber from the separation chamber. The functionalized magnetic nanoparticles conjugate with a target analyte in the sample. A magnet in proximity to a SAW chamber including a SAW detector draws the functionalized magnetic nanoparticles toward antibodies immobilized on the SAW sensor surface A wash reservoir is communicated to the SAW sensor chamber, and a cleanup/waste reservoir is communicated to the SAW chamber for receive fluid after it has passed through the SAW chamber.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a multi-droplet sensing and actuation system, for use in a digital microfluidic chip operation wherein a linearly independent alternating current signal is applied to each discrete actuation electrode thus encoding the electrode's identity. The combined measured impedance signal from multiple channels is then processed to decode an impedance measurement for the volume between each discrete actuation electrode and its corresponding conductive counter electrode region, where the sensed impedance is inversely proportional to an amount of liquid within the volume.

Abstract: A fluidic system is provided. The system comprises: a rigid housing (12), a plurality of flexible reagent containers (14) contained within the housing (12); wherein each reagent container (14) has a connection port (16) through which a reagent can flow, in use, on the application of pressure. The system further comprises a single pressure source (18) configured to apply pressure to the interior of the rigid housing (12); a microfluidic device configured to analyse one or more fluids provided from the plurality of reagent containers; and a plurality of channels (20) configured to transfer fluid from the plurality of reagent containers (14) to the microfluidic device. The ratio of resistances provided by a combination of the connection ports and the plurality of channels dictates the ratio of flow rates of the reagents. The claimed system allows for an accurate control of the various reagent flow rates while minimizing fluctuations in the relative flow rates.

Abstract: An eccentric assembly for a crusher is disclosed. The eccentric assembly attaches both an eccentric and a counterweight to an underlying rotatable gear that supplies rotational force to the assembly. The eccentric includes an eccentric barrel and an eccentric flange, and the sides of the eccentric are disproportionately weighted. Similarly, the counterweight is disproportionately weighted in an inverse configuration to the eccentric. The eccentric and the counterweight are bolted, pinned, keyed, screwed, nailed, or otherwise fastened to an upper side of the gear. Additionally, the eccentric and the gear both have fluid channels disposed therein for transporting lubricant, such as oil, through the crusher. In particular, the gear may include internally bored fluid passages or external drains for receiving and dispelling the lubricant.
