Abstract: Disclosed are processes for loading a cartridge such as a shot shell with a shot load and a charge of buffer material. The processes employ a tube that is coaxially aligned with the axis of the cartridge case or shot cup, the tube having an outer diameter that closely fits into the inner diameter of the cartridge case or shot cup. Shot and buffer material are loaded, the leading edge of the tube is inserted to a sufficient depth to cause at least a portion of the shot load and buffer material to rise into the inner volume of the tube, and the tube removed. The insertion-removal cycle effects the efficient mixing of the shot and the buffer material and can be repeated as many times as desired.

Systems and methods for improving estimates of a receiver's altitude determine a reference pressure at a reference altitude using a temperature measured at a transmitter or another temperature value, an altitude of the transmitter, and a pressure measured by the transmitter or another pressure value. A local reference pressure for a receiver is determined using the reference pressure and other reference pressures from other transmitters. Reference pressures from overheating transmitters may be weighted less than reference pressures from other transmitters when determining the local reference pressure. Abstract: A distributed system detects and tracks wildfires using a fleet of automobiles as remote sensing systems. An individual vehicles includes a plurality of sensing subsystems each collecting and evaluating a respective environmental parameter for various autonomous functions such as collision avoidance, lane-keeping, and climate control. Each sensing subsystem analyzes a respective environmental parameter to detect a respective fire-related trigger. A fire response module in the vehicle responds to a respective fire-related trigger from one of the sensing subsystems by fusing data from a plurality of the sensing subsystems. The fire response module uses the fused data to detect whether there is a fire-related event. A wireless communication module communicates with a remote fire response center, and transmits the fused data to the fire response center when a fire-related event is detected. The response center sends notices and detour information for a confirmed fire incident to the wireless communication module.

In a case where there is a route candidate track that is a railway track that is possibly used as a travel route of the vehicle, the controller acquires a railway operation schedule for the route candidate track, and determines whether the route candidate track can be used as the travel route of the vehicle, based on the operation schedule. In the case where the route candidate track can be used as the travel route of the vehicle, the controller creates a travel plan according to which the vehicle travels along the travel route including the route candidate track.

Abstract: To provide remote services, including dynamic, interactive assistance to electric vehicle (EV) users, a central server is arranged for electronic communications with EVs (15) and with client devices (11). The server also communicates with at least one EV charging station network, which in turn communicate with individual charging stations (30). Remote services may include trip planning, locating charging stations, checking availability and suitability of charging stations, making reservations at charging stations, and updating plans en route. The server collects data from the EV and analyzes the data to determine various statistics. The system advises a user on readiness of the EV to complete a proposed trip before recharging the EV batteries. Client devices may include smart phones, computers, or a head unit in the EV. Application software programs are executable on the client devices to provide user interfaces for accessing the remote services and for communicating with the central server.

Abstract: A non-scaled, linearly compressed pictographic mapping system is provided for the visual display of information in a navigational aid. Unlike today's road maps which use a point-arc-polygon paradigm, the new mapping uses a non-scaled, linearly-compressed pictographic design that shows roads as linear pictograms. The display has a columnar layout, whereby the descriptive elements are grouped together by type, and displayed one above the other in columns. The maps may also contain icons representing points of interest. In this manner, the mapping paradigm also serves to increase traveler safety, provide navigation assistance during address-less trips, create valuable advertising space and new promotional opportunities, and dramatically increases the travelers' communications and entertainment options.

Abstract: Technologies for intelligent traffic optimization include a directional flow server that receives dynamic traffic data from traffic infrastructure devices in a monitored region. The traffic data may include traffic volume data and traffic control status data. The server updates a dynamic layer of a high-definition map based on the dynamic traffic data. The high-definition map also includes a static layer and a directional flow layer. The server optimizes the directional flow in response to updating the dynamic layer. The directional flow layer is indicative of traffic direction associated with roads in the monitored region. The server may optimize each of several sub-regions and then optimize connection roads between the regions. The server may distribute the optimized directional flow layer to consumers such as traffic control devices, autonomous vehicles, and other subscribing devices.
