An angle of the device with respect to the direction of gravity is determined (202) and a location of one or more features of the user holding the device is identified (204). A height of the blood pressure sensor relative to a heart level of the user is determined based on the determined angle of the device with respect to the direction of gravity and the identified location of the one or more features of the user (206). The device is controlled based on the determined height of the blood pressure sensor relative to the heart level of the user (208).

Blood pressure is calculated based on the pulse transit time acquired by the measurement processing unit by using a predetermined correspondence equation between pulse transit time and blood pressure. Pulse transit time is acquired with the measurement processing unit while pressing force by pressing member is changed in resting state, and corresponding equation is calibrated based on plurality of pulse transit times corresponding to plurality of respective pressing forces.

Abstract: A method for measuring a neural response to a stimulus. Measurement circuitry is settled prior to a stimulus, by connecting a sense electrode to the measurement circuitry to allow the measurement circuitry to settle towards a bio-electrically defined steady state. Charge is recovered on stimulus electrodes by short circuiting the stimulus electrodes to each other. An electrical stimulus is then applied from the stimulus electrodes to neural tissue, while keeping the sense electrode disconnected from the measurement circuitry. After the stimulus, a delay is imposed during which the stimulus electrodes are open circuited and the sense electrode is disconnected from the measurement circuitry and from the stimulus electrodes. After the delay, a neural response signal present at the sense electrode is measured by connecting the sense electrode to the measurement circuitry.

Abstract: A device and a signal processing method that can be used with a device to recognize and distinguish a physiological high-frequency oscillation (HFO) from a pathological high-frequency oscillation. The signal processing method detects a physiological HFO in the electrical brain signal one regimen of electrical or optogenetic brain stimulation can be triggered, alternatively if the method detects a pathological HFO associated with epilepsy a different regimen of electrical or optogenetic brain stimulation can be triggered. Thus, the signal processing method can be utilized in a closed loop brain stimulation device that serves the dual purpose of both enhancing memory encoding, consolidation, and recall, or improving cognition, and reducing the probability of a seizure in a patient with epilepsy.

Abstract: Some embodiments described herein relate to a method that includes defining an electro-anatomical model of a heart. The electro-anatomical model can include conduction patterns for multiple patterns or phases identified by a measurement instrument. The electro-anatomical model can also include a voltage map of the heart. A portion of the heart containing a rotor can be identified based on circulation in one phase of the model. The rotor can be determined to be stable based on that portion of the heart having circulation in another phase of the model. The rotor can be characterized as a substrate rotor based on the rotor being stable and based on the voltage or a change in voltage at the portion of the heart containing the rotor. The rotor can be treated or ablated when the rotor is determined to be a substrate rotor.
