Abstract: System and methods for monitoring and/or controlling nerve activity in a subject are provided. In one embodiment, a system includes electrodes configured to be placed proximate to a subject's skin, and a signal detector configured to detect electrical signals using the electrodes. The system also includes a signal processor configured to receive the electrical signals from the signal detector, and apply a filter to the received electrical signals to generate filtered signals, the filter configured to attenuate at least signals having frequencies corresponding to heart muscle activity during a heartbeat. The signal processor is also configured to identify a skin nerve activity using the filtered signals, estimate a sympathetic nerve activity using the identified skin nerve activity, and further to generate a report indicative of the estimated sympathetic nerve activity. In some aspects, the system further includes a signal generator to deliver the electrical stimulation to the subject's skin.

  • Patent number: 10478647
Abstract: An automatic stovetop fire suppressor is activated by a shuttle actuator. The self-contained and closed container device provides a gradual release of a fire suppressing agent in a desired distribution pattern. A method of reliable and spatial agent release are provided herein. A plastic cone shaped lid seals on the bottom of a can and forms a closed container. The closed container is filled with a fire suppressing agent. An initiator charge is housed external to the container of fire suppressing agent and is fuse activated. The activated charge displaces the shuttle. As the shuttle displaces, vertical support for the bottom cone lid is removed and a compression spring breaks a circumferential seal between the bottom lid and container cylindrical sidewall and lowers the bottom lid exposing a radial opening. Fire suppressing agent flows out of the radial opening, suppressing a stovetop fire.

  • Patent number: 10478662
Abstract: A stretching apparatus for use during a stretching exercise includes a strap and a ratchet device. The strap is configured to attach to a limb of a user. The strap extends through the ratchet device and the ratchet device controls tension in the strap. The ratchet device is positionable between a ratcheting position and a release position. The ratcheting position prevents movement of the strap in a first direction and allows movement of the strap in a second direction. The release position allows movement of the strap in the first direction. The stretching apparatus also includes a remote trigger connected to the ratchet device to move the ratchet device between the ratcheting position and the release position. The stretching apparatus removably connects to support structures and is adjustable between different positions for different stretching exercises.
