Such cleaning involves positioning a cleaning (deplating) disk in an electroplating cup similar to a regular processed substrate. The front surface of the cleaning disk includes a corrosion resistant conductive material to form electrical connections to deposits on the cup's surfaces. The disk is sealed in the cup and submerged into a plating solution. A reverse current is then applied to the front conductive surface of the disk to initiate deplating of the deposits. Sealing compression in the cup may change during cleaning to cause different deformation of the lip seal and to form new electrical connections to the deposits. The proposed cleaning may be applied to remove deposits formed during electroplating of alloys, in particular, tin-silver alloys widely used for semiconductor and wafer level packaging.

The modular architecture facilitates the deployment of the tether by facilitating its transport into space as unassembled modular components and its assembly in situ, after the components have been transported. The modular architecture also facilitates it repair, modification, and disassembly in situ. More particularly, the modular tether has design features that enable its assembly, repair, modification, and/or disassembly in situ while the modular tether remains under tension, i.e., while the modular tether continues to perform its function of joining two or more objects by the application of centripetal force. The modular architecture also enables new tether modalities, e.g., a tensile strength modality, a winch modality, a tension monitoring modality, a repair state modality, a situational awareness modality, and a temperature control modality.

The neutral orientation layer has a chemical affinity to match that of blocks in the self-assemblable polymer so that blocks of differing types wet the neutral orientation layer so that domains in the self-assembled polymer may lie side by side along the substrate surface, with interfaces normal to the substrate surface. The resulting aligned and oriented self-assembled polymer may itself be used as a resist for device lithography of the substrate.
