Publication number: 20200087150Abstract: Graphene is a single layer carbon-based material known for high strength, high flexibility, high electrical conductivity, high surface area, hydrophobicity and barrier property. Introduction of surface functional groups on graphene enhances most of these properties. A facile and economical process to prepare amine and fluoride functionalized graphenes is disclosed. The disclosed processes utilize direct functionalization of pristine graphene without pre-functionalization (GO). Successful functionalization of both aminated and fluorinated graphenes were confirmed by the analyses of FT-IR, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), Raman, UV-Vis, and dispersion study. Amine functional groups can react with epoxy resin and urethane resin to form a covalent bond, and fluorinated graphene can give high hydrophobicity and durability, therefore both can be applied as a material or a component in polymer and composite coatings for corrosion protection, moisture or gas barriers.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2019Publication date: March 19, 2020Applicant: Board of Regents, The University of Texas SystemInventors: Melissa A. Publication number: 20200087152Abstract: The present invention discloses a process for recovering ammonia from vanadium preparation for ammonium preparation and recycling wastewater. A conventional vanadium extraction process is complex, and the most difficult to control and treat are ammonia emissions and wastewater treatment. The present process can directly extract ammonium metavanadate and ammonium polyvanadate from the beginning of mining and smelting, and gather all emitted ammonia to prepare ammonium in the process of preparing high-purity vanadium pentoxide by using the ammonium metavanadate or the ammonium polyvanadate, thereby ensuring zero emission of the exhaust gas, and effectively treat all wastewater generated in the above process by using a polyacid ester folucculation technology, thereby ensuring that the wastewater is not discharged but recycled, and realizing that the purity of all products reaches 99.5-99.99%.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2019Publication date: March 19, 2020Inventors: Xiaodi Xu, Honghui Zhou

Publication number: 20200087156Abstract: This document describes a method for reducing the corrosivity of certain magnesium salts. The salt product resulting from the method exhibits reduced corrosion of steels that come into contact with the salt relative to salt compositions that are not so treated. This makes such treated salts more efficient coolant salts as they will require less equipment replacement over time. The method uses magnesium metal to reduce unwanted impurities in the salts the reduced impurities are then removed as either gas or precipitate from the now purified salt. Without being bound to one particular theory, it is believed that the reduction of the level of impurities in the salt results in a salt with substantially reduced corrosiveness to steel.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2019Publication date: March 19, 2020Applicant: TerraPower, LLCInventor: Brian C. Publication number: 20200087193Abstract: Methods of separating a glass web include exposing a separation path on the glass web to a laser beam that produces thermal stress along the separation path without damaging the glass web. The methods further include redirecting a portion of the laser beam to create a defect on the separation path while the separation path is under thermal stress produced during the exposing the separation path on the glass web to the laser beam, whereupon the glass web separates along the separation path in response to creating the defect. Apparatus are further provided for separating a glass web with at least one laser beam generator that produces a laser beam to heat a separation path and a mirror configured to reflect an end portion of the laser beam to create a defect at a location of the separation path on the glass web.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2018Publication date: March 19, 2020Inventors: Anatoli Anatolyevich Abramov, Craig Gene Stewart
