Abstract: Improvements are disclosed to lighting fixtures, support structures, interconnecting cabling, and other subjects. An improved method allows precise control of the beams of high power, long throw followspots by means of a steering mirror motorized in two axes. The beam is first directed upwards from the followspot by a first mirror to the steering mirror above. The range of elevations through which the beam can be steered is increased by displacing the steering mirror relative to the first mirror such that the portion of the beam between them is not vertical.

Abstract: An article of manufacture comprising a heat sink to be attached a heat source, being coupled thermally and directly for conductive flow of heat from the heat source to the heat sink. The heat sink is formed via extrusion of material of suitable density and mass to absorb heat from the heat source based on design requirements. The extruded heat sink is configured with specially oriented extruded fins and machined cross cuts to increase surface area available to air flow, and arranged for efficient passage of air around the extruded heat sink, thus effecting efficient convection of heat into the air ambient. Cross cuts and fin are specifically arranged to enhance the “stack effect,” or “chimney effect,” associated with air flow. An objective is to maximize air flow across available surface area, and thus to enhance removal of heat into the air ambient.

Abstract: A solar vapor generator includes an absorber to absorb sunlight and an emitter, in thermal communication with the absorber, to radiatively evaporate a liquid under less than 1 sun illumination and without pressurization. The emitter is physically separated from the liquid, substantially reducing fouling of the emitter. The absorber and the emitter may also be heated to temperatures higher than the boiling point of the liquid and may thus may be used to further superheat the vapor. Solar vapor generation can provide the basis for many sustainable desalination, sanitization, and process heating technologies.

Abstract: A unibody heater module is disclosed having an end cap and a base, wherein the base of the heater canister is filled with a solid-state reaction mixture. Twist-to-activate heater starting functionality is embedded directly into the unibody heater module. A reactive starting pellet is embedded into the upper surface of the compacted solid-state reaction mix. The plunger head of a firing pin passing through the center of an internal metal spacer is held a small distance away from the upper surface of the starting pellet. When the user activated CUI is rotated, the base of a cam pushes on one end of a firing pin protruding through a small hole in the end cap of the unibody heater module. The opposite end of the plunger plunges into the starter pellet so as to initiate heater activation in response to operation of the CUI by the user.
