  • Patent number: 10635150
Abstract: An electrical power supply device includes a DC-DC power convertor receiving an input voltage and producing a first output voltage or a second output voltage that is less than the first output voltage, the first and second output voltage each less than the input voltage and a device controller in communication with the DC-DC power convertor. The device controller has one or more processors and memory. The memory includes instructions which causes the device controller to command the DC-DC power convertor to output the first output voltage when the input voltage is equal to or greater than a threshold voltage and which causes the device controller to command the DC-DC power convertor to output the second output voltage when the input voltage is less than the threshold voltage. A method of operating the electrical power supply device is also presented.

  • Patent number: 10635153
Abstract: A method for passive optical motion detection uses an optical sensor arrangement comprising an optical sensor having at least one signal channel. The optical sensor arrangement is initialized for repeated signal acquisition and an initial frame comprising a tuple of sensor data is collected from the at least one signal channel. The initial frame is set as a previous frame. A loop of motion detection is entered and the following steps are repeated. First, a current frame comprising another tuple of sensor data is collected from the at least one signal channel. Then, a motion parameter is computed from a motion metric depending on the current and previous frames. The so computed motion parameter is compared with a threshold value. A motion event parameter is set depending on the comparison of the motion parameter with the threshold value. The current frame is set as previous frame so that the loop can start all over again.

  • Patent number: 10635158
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to an electronic circuit and method of operating thereof to back up write cache data on DDR memory in data storage devices during an emergency power off (EPO). The method involves using a power management integrated circuit (PMIC), a combo driver and one MOSFET for regulator output. The method involves detecting a voltage value that is below a predetermined threshold value, retracting a write head away from a hard disk drive (HDD), backing up data, and then resetting the HDD after the backup is complete. The backing up and retraction may occur in parallel or in sequence. The method utilizes the spindle back-electromotive force (BEMF) power to have sufficient power to make the backup. If the power from the spindle BEMF is too low, then the retraction is suspended and a high impedance is present to lighten the load until the BEMF recovers before the power on reset. As such, the back-up data is not reset and volatized by a lack of power.

  • Patent number: 10635159
Abstract: Adaptive voltage modulation circuits for adjusting supply voltage to reduce supply voltage droops and minimize power consumption are provided. In one aspect, an adaptive voltage modulation circuit detects a supply voltage droop by detecting when a supply voltage falls below a droop threshold voltage, and adjusts a clock signal provided to a load circuit in response to a supply voltage droop. The adaptive voltage modulation circuit keeps a count of the number of clock signal cycles during which the supply voltage is below the droop threshold voltage. The adaptive voltage modulation circuit increases the supply voltage in response to the count exceeding an upper threshold value, and decreases the supply voltage in response to the count being less than a lower threshold value at an end of a defined period. The adaptive voltage modulation circuit can reduce the time a load circuit operates with reduced frequency while minimizing power consumption.

Abstract: A three dimensional (3D) cursor maneuvering system for use by a computer or electro-mechanical system requiring 3D control, includes a tinted 2D planar or locally planar reference surface and a color sensitive mobile device that moves along the tinted reference surface and generates high sensitivity and high resolution absolute positional and motional data by accurately determining variations in the tint. Color index data (e.g. CIE 1931 RGB, etc.) on the tinted reference plane varies from place to place and methods are disclosed for imprinting the reference plane with that data in the form of dyes and pigments that may be reflective, refractive or emissive. When the mobile device moves on or over the reference surface, it captures a series of images whose data (e.g. CIE 1931 RGB) varies in correspondence with the movement of the device. The color index data measured by the mobile device can be mathematically converted into 3D positional and motional data.
