Abstract: A sutureless device and methods for closing a tissue opening that minimizes the labor, cost, and skill typically required is disclosed. The apparatus comprises two anchors that attach to either side of an open tissue wound. The two anchors are connected together by a tie strip; the tie strip has a plurality of teeth and a rack. As the wound edges and anchors are brought together the ratchet system on the tie strip prevents the anchors and tissue wound from reopening. To control the distance between the two anchors, a rack and pinion system and a key or a lever system is utilized. The rack is located on the tie strip and the pinion is located on the key.

Abstract: A surgical instrument for forming an end-to-end anastomosis includes first and second handles each supporting a shaft at a distal end thereof. The proximal ends of each shaft are coupled about a pivot such that movement of the handles correspondingly moves the distal ends of each shaft. A release mechanism is included that is actuatable to pivot a pair of bifurcated legs of each shaft between a first position for receiving first and second vessels and a second position that facilitate release of the respective first and second vessels. First and second posts are supported on each distal end and are configured to support an end of the respective first and second vessels thereon. The posts are adapted to connect to an electrical generator for communicating energy through each end of each respective first and second vessel to form an anastomotic seal.

Abstract: A radio frequency ablation system, includes a single frequency RF signal generator, control circuitry configured to set phases and amplitudes of a plurality of replicas of the RF signal, a plurality of non-linear amplifiers, configured to amplify the plurality of replicas of the RF signal, and to drive a respective plurality of ablation electrodes in a patient body with the amplified replicas. A processor is configured to receive a superposition of the plurality of replicas as a return signal from a body surface patch electrode, and to adaptively adjust phases and amplitudes of the amplified replicas in response to the return signal with the control circuitry to zero crosstalk currents. In a tissue contact check mode of operation the phases of the amplified replicas are identical, and in an ablation mode of operation the phases of the amplified replicas differ from one another.

Abstract: Methods for detecting tubing in a pump assembly of a pump system are provided. For example, a method comprises connecting a power supply to each of a plurality of pump motors of the pump system. Each pump motor of the plurality of pump motors has a power supply cable configured to connect to the power supply and drives a pump head of a plurality of pump heads of the pump system. The method also comprises sensing a motor current from each of the power supply cables, determining whether tubing is loaded in each pump head, and, if tubing is not loaded in a pump head, then disconnecting from the power supply the power supply cable of the pump motor associated with the pump head in which tubing is not loaded. Systems for detecting the presence of tubing within a pump head of a plurality of pump heads also are provided.
