  • Patent number: 10745239
Abstract: A braking system for an elevator includes an electromagnetic brake operably connected to an elevator car. A control circuit is operably connected to the electromagnetic brake and includes a switching mechanism to selectively modify a rate of engagement of the electromagnetic brake to selectively modify deceleration of the elevator car. A method of engaging an electromagnetic brake for an elevator system includes detecting one or more operational characteristics of the elevator system and selecting a first position or a second position of a switching mechanism disposed at a brake control circuit depending on the sensed operational characteristics. Electrical current is directed through one or more components of the brake control circuit, depending on the position of the switching mechanism, to determine a rate of engagement of the electromagnetic brake. A flow of electrical current through the brake control circuit is stopped, thereby causing engagement of the electromagnetic brake.

The BEOL interconnect structure is over the semiconductor substrate, and comprises wiring layers stacked in a dielectric region. Further, an upper surface of the BEOL interconnect structure is planar or substantially planar. The integrated MEMS structure overlies and directly contacts the upper surface of the BEOL interconnect structure, and comprises an electrode layer. The cavity is under the upper surface of the BEOL interconnect structure, between the MEMS structure and the BEOL interconnect structure.

Abstract: A microscale device may include a patterned forest of vertically grown and aligned carbon nanotubes defining a carbon nanotube forest with the nanotubes having a height defining a thickness of the forest. The patterned forest may define a patterned frame that defines one or more components of the microscale device. The microscale device may also include a conformal coating of substantially uniform thickness extending throughout the carbon nanotube forest. The carbon nanotube forest may have a thickness of at least three microns. The conformal coating may substantially coat the nanotubes, define coated nanotubes and connect adjacent nanotubes together such that the carbon nanotube forest is sufficiently robust for liquid processing, without substantially filling interstices between individual coated nanotubes. The microscale device may also include a metallic interstitial material infiltrating the carbon nanotube forest and at least partially filling interstices between individual coated nanotubes.

Abstract: A furnace for performing an endothermic process, comprising tubes containing a catalyst for converting a gaseous feed, wherein tubes are positioned in rows inside the furnace, wherein burners are mounted between the tubes and between the tubes and the furnace walls parallel to the tubes rows, and wherein the burners rows and the tubes rows are ended by end walls and are divided into sections with, on each row of tubes, the distance from a wall end tube to the end wall being T2W, the distance between two adjacent inner tubes in a section being T2T, and the distance between two symmetry end tubes of two adjacent sections being T2S, wherein the tubes in the rows are arranged in such a way that the ratios T2T/T2W and T2T/T2S are greater than 0.5 and smaller than 2 thus limiting the differences in the heat transfer to the outer tubes (wall end tubes and symmetry end tubes) with respect to the inner tubes and reducing the temperature difference between outer tubes and inner tubes.
