Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are presented for optimizing the formation of gas nanobubbles in a disinfecting solution. In an example system for treating contaminated water, a centrifugal pump draws the water from a reservoir and circulates the water in and through a circuit of elements including a mixing chamber in the pump, a pressure vessel, a backflow valve, a Venturi injector, and a pair of nozzles immersed in the reservoir. The system injects ozone-rich gas into the fluid to produce an aqueous solution containing a volume of gas nanobubbles. The nozzles release the gas nanobubbles into the reservoir, creating highly reactive compounds that destroy organic compounds and other contaminants in the water.

Abstract: CMC articles and methods for forming CMC articles are provided. In one example aspect, a method for forming a CMC article includes forming a CMC preform defining a first section and a second section. The first section has one or more plies that include sacrificial fibers. The second section of the CMC preform does not include sacrificial fibers. The first and second sections can be laid up to form the CMC prior to thermally processing, e.g., consolidation, firing, and infiltration. When the CMC preform is fired or burned out, the sacrificial fibers are removed or decomposed resulting in formation of channels within the first section of the pyrolyzed CMC preform. The channels are used as gas transport paths during chemical vapor infiltration to facilitate infiltration of a gaseous infiltrant into the fired CMC preform. The channels are then backfilled with a liquid infiltrant during a melt infiltration process.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed towards a system and method relating to depositing vapor in a sample. For example, a device includes a vapor source chamber configured to contain a vapor source material to generate vapor. An activation chamber is configured to contain a sample. The activation chamber is in fluid communication with the vapor source chamber to receive the vapor. A permeable separator divides the vapor source chamber and the activation chamber, and isolates the sample in the activation chamber while allowing vapor to pass between the vapor source chamber and the activation chamber. The device is sealable and configured to apply vacuum to the vapor and sample, to cause deposition of the vapor into the pumice stone samples.
