Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to the treatment of wounds using negative pressure. Some embodiments disclosed herein provide for a foam pad, which may be suitable for use in abdominal wound sites, and which may be sized in a dimensionally-independent manner. Additional embodiments provide for a wound contact layer, as well as a system for the treatment of abdominal wounds.

Abstract: A dressing includes a drape, a pressure-sensitive acrylic-based adhesive disposed on a skin-facing surface of the drape, an island of absorbent material including non-woven superabsorbent fibers, and a wound contact layer. The drape is a thin film capable of maintaining a negative pressure underneath the drape upon application of a vacuum. The island of absorbent material has a smaller area than the drape and is connected with and disposed beneath the sin-facing surface of the drape so as to leave a first margin of adhesive-coated drape around the island of absorbent material. The island of absorbent material further includes interruptions to reduce or eliminate tension or compression in the island of absorbent material as the dressing bends. The wound-contact layer is disposed on a skin-facing side of the island of absorbent material. The wound contact layer is configured not to stick to a wound.

The fluid guide also has and a tilted tail portion. The front fixed portion and the back fixed portion connect to the absorbent pad. The tilted tail portion is positioned at a back end of the back fixed portion. A head end of the tilted tail portion is more adjacent to the absorbent pad than a tail end of the tilted tail portion. The tail end of the tilted tail portion is suspended without touching the absorbent pad.

Abstract: Skin compression devices are disclosed that are formed of a shape memory material and that have multiple tensioning members. Disposal of one or more skin compression devices on the skin of a subject increases the temperature of the shape memory material and causes the tensioning members to bend inward, thereby compressing the area of skin disposed between the tensioning members; this compression shields the compressed skin from tensile loading. Methods of production and use of the skin compression devices are also disclosed.

The wheelchair can include a frame, a seat moveable relative to the frame, a drive wheel, one or more pairs of arm assemblies, and one or more sensors. The arm assembly includes a wheel configured to move from a first spatial location when the wheelchair is operating on flat, level ground to a second spatial location that is different than the first spatial location. Arm limiters can selectively engage the arm assembly based on at least one of a seat position, position of the arm assembly, and surface conditions of ground surface. The arm limiters can limit the range of motion of the arm assembly and sometimes other operational aspects of the chair. The methods adjust the maximum operational speed of the wheelchair when the seat is in an elevated position based on sensor data relating to one or more of the arm limiter position and the position of the frame.
