A motion unit is integrated into the lid and the motion unit is in mechanical communication with the closure. The motion unit urges the closure into the open position when the motion unit senses that the beverage cup is near a user's mouth. Additionally, the motion unit urges the closure into the closed position when the motion unit no longer senses that the beverage cup is near the user's mouth.
