Publication number: 20210196131Abstract: A method is presented for predicting onset of pulmonary congestion symptoms. The overall idea is to track rising left ventricular filling pressure (LVFP) in heart failure patients by exploiting significant changes in a pulsatile arterial waveform obtained with a mobile device and thereby avert hospitalizations. The stimulus for the changes may be metronomic deep breathing performed by the patient or a natural occurring arrhythmia such as atrial fibrillation or premature beats. For either stimulus, the extent of the amplitude variations depends on where the patient is on the Starling curve. If the patient is on the steep part of the curve, the variations will be large and LVFP will be low. If the patient is on the flatter part of the curve, the variations will be smaller and LFVP will be higher. These variations can be normalized in various ways to arrive at a congestion prediction index (CPI).Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2019Publication date: July 1, 2021Applicants: Board of Trustees of Michigan State University, THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGANInventors: Ramakrishna MUKKAMALA, Keerthana NATARAJAN, Mohammed SAEED

Publication number: 20210196161Abstract: Typical electrochemical sensors measure target-induced changes in current output. Such measures of target binding are inconsistent across individual sensors, and furthermore, signal will drift over time when the sensor is deployed for long periods. These shortcomings can be avoided by the novel use of chronoamperometry to measure current decay kinetics as the indicator of target binding. Current decay lifetimes will vary in a concentration dependent manner, but remain stable across individual sensors and over time, allowing for calibration-free operation. By these methods, aptamer based electrochemical sensors and other sensor types may be deployed in vivo for extended periods of time and will provide accurate measurement of target binding without calibration.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2018Publication date: July 1, 2021Applicant: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIAInventors: Kevin Plaxco, Netzahualcoyotl Arroyo Curras

Publication number: 20210196168Abstract: A method and apparatus for automated identification of at least one transitory emotional state, such as fear, happiness, disgust, etc, of a living mammal are disclosed. At least one sensor is mounted on or in the vicinity of the living mammal, said sensor being configured to detect at least one metabolite molecule(s), and preferably at least one volatile organic compound(s), emanated by the living mammal. Continuously and in real-time the amount of at least one of the metabolite molecule(s) is then determined with the sensor over a period of time. The determined amount of the metabolite molecule(s) is further analyzed to establish whether the amount or the increase rate of the metabolite molecule(s) exceeds at least one predetermined criterion, and when such a predetermined criterion has been exceeded, identifying that a transitory emotional state associated with the metabolite molecule(s) is present in the living mammal.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2017Publication date: July 1, 2021Inventor: KALYAN MITRA
