Abstract: Fetal tissue oxygenation may be performed transabdominally by, for example, receiving a plurality of detected electronic signals that correspond to light emitted from a pregnant mammal's abdomen and a fetus contained therein that has been detected by the detector and converted into the detected electronic signal. An indication of a depth of the fetus within the pregnant mammal's abdomen may be received and a portion of the detected electronic signals that correspond to light that was incident upon the fetus may be isolated responsively to the indication of the depth of the fetus using, for example, time of flight of photons that correspond to the detected electronic signals. A fetal tissue oxygen saturation level may then be determined using the isolated portion of the detected electronic signals that correspond to light that was incident upon the fetus.

Abstract: Medical diagnostic devices and related methods of use are described in which one or multiple coils in a sensor, each coil connected with an RLC circuit and frequency counter, are held against a patient's head at predetermined cranial locations. Frequencies of the RLC circuit are measured and compared against those taken from known, control heads, to determine whether there is a medical problem and what type of problem. In some instances, too high of frequencies can reveal pooled blood in the head, a sign of hemorrhagic stroke, while too low of frequencies imply lack of blood supply, a sign of ischemic stroke. A head-mountable frame can assist a first responder in securing and guiding the coils and, along with fiducials, allow for automatic comparison of frequencies with the correct control data.

Abstract: In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, a system and method allows for the assessment of health and mortality based on dynamic nonlinear calculations of self-similar fluctuation patterns in a time series of QT intervals and of other physiological signals, such as RR intervals, temperature, blood pressure, respiration, saturation of peripheral oxygen, intracardiac pressures, and electroencephalogram. In order to nonlinearly determine health and mortality, time series of QT intervals and of other physiological signals (e.g., RR intervals) are simultaneously obtained, and entropy values are calculated for each signal over the same temporal interval. “EntropyX” is calculated from relative changes between moments and entropy of QT intervals and those of other physiological signals over seconds to days. The absolute and relative entropy values at a specific time point and/or subsequent changes in entropy over future time points can be used to determine a treatment plan for the subject.

Abstract: Many treatments of skin cancer need an accurate assessment of the margins of the tumor. Spectrally-encoded optical polarization imaging improves upon the demarcation of skin cancer such as keratinocytic carcinomas. When the clinician can outline the clinical boundary of each lesion, surgery and other treatments can be more efficient and effective. Optical images of the lesions are acquired at various wavelengths, then spectrally-encoded. Spectral-encoding of the images minimizes the impact of background pigmentation and vascularization so that the tumor can be accurately visualized.

Abstract: Knee joint laxity testing apparatus includes a thigh cradle assembly, a shank cradle assembly, and a heel cradle assembly. The apparatus is configured to measure knee laxity in three planes of motion: anterior-posterior translations; varus-valgus rotations; and internal-external rotations. The thigh cradle assembly, shank cradle assembly, and heel cradle assembly are mounted on a common base. A thigh fixation system is attached to the thigh cradle assembly both at the proximal and distal ends to firmly stabilize the thigh in the thigh cradle. The patella pad and distal thigh fixation system are mounted on a U-bar assembly. The distal thigh fixation system includes two condyle pad adjustment arms upon which a respective condyle pad is mounted, and a patella pad mounted to a linear track on an underside of the U-bar assembly.

Abstract: A device for liveness detection is disclosed. The liveness detecting device has a simplest structure that principally comprises a light sensing unit and a signal processing module. Particularly, the signal processing module is configured for having a physiological feature extracting unit and a liveness detecting unit therein. The physiological feature extracting unit is adopted for extracting a first physiological feature from a PPG signal, or extracting a second physiological feature from the PPG signal that has been applied with a signal process. As such, through the first and second physiological features, the liveness detecting unit is able to determine whether a subject is a living body or not. The liveness detecting device does not use any camera unit and iPPG technology, such that the liveness detecting device has advantages of simple structure, low cost and immediately completing liveness detection.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for monitoring a person's sleep are described. Thermal images of a person sleeping can be captured using an infrared camera and processed to determine the body temperature of the person. A particular sleep stage and its duration can be determined using the body temperature. In addition, the data obtained from monitoring the person can be used to determine if the person is suffering from one or more sleep disorders or other health problems. In this manner, a person's sleep quantity and quality can be determined in a non-invasive, efficient, and comfortable manner.

Abstract: A method of determining touch sensitivity threshold at a region of body of a human using a probe. The method includes setting first value for impact attribute of probe; releasing the probe towards the region, to impact the region with the first value for impact attribute; receiving first feedback from human in response to the impact of the probe with the first value for the impact attribute. The method further includes changing the first value of the impact attribute to set a second value; releasing the probe towards the region, to impact the region with the second value for the impact attribute; receiving a second feedback corresponding to the second value for the impact attribute. The method includes changing value of impact attribute until determination of touch sensitivity threshold as either a lowest value of sensing or a highest value of senselessness of probe based on the feedback.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system (100) for monitoring one or more physiological parameters of an individual. The system (100) comprises an optical fibre assembly (110) configured to measure one or more physiological parameters of an individual, and a pressure sensor (120) configured to measure a contact pressure of the optical fibre assembly (110) on the individual. The pressure sensor (120) comprises an optical fibre (122) comprising a transducer fibre Bragg grating (127) embedded in a matrix (121). The matrix (121) is configured to cause longitudinal strain in the transducer fibre Bragg grating (127) in response to the matrix (121) being subject to a transverse load. The one or more physiological parameters that the system (100) is for monitoring may include blood oxygen saturation (Sp O2), capillary refill time (CRT), heart rate, blood flow and CO2 emissions from skin.
