Abstract: Devices and methods for the repair of the functioning of heart valves are provided. A device may comprise a first section having a generally spiral shape and a second section connected to the first section. A method involves positioning the device such that chords associated with the heart valve are positioned within the path of the generally spiral shape of the first section and positioning the second section on an opposite side of the heart valve. The first section may be turned in a manner such that the chords move closer to the center of the first section. The first section draws the chords closer together, thereby pulling the valve leaflets closer together in order to facilitate their coaptation and proper closing.

Abstract: A force and rotation sensing device can be suitable for measuring a force within a knee joint. A force sensor can measure a force exerted between opposing surfaces of a housing. A force display positioned on the housing can visually represent a value of the measured force, such as with a dual-sided light-emitting diode display that is visible from opposing sides of the housing. A first rotation sensor can measure a flexion/extension position of the housing. A flexion extension display can visually represent a value of the measured flexion/extension position. In some examples, a zero button can set a reference orientation of the housing, so that the first rotation sensor can measure the flexion/extension position as a relative rotation with respect to the reference orientation. In some examples, circuitry can wirelessly transmit data corresponding to the value of the measured flexion/extension position.

Abstract: A system for electronically capturing a subject's anatomy. Software programming directs the user to position the camera to recognize the anatomy. It uses anatomical features of the recognized subject's anatomy, patient data entered by the user and anthropometric data to estimate the optimal position of virtual markers. Furthermore, it places the virtual markers on an image presented to the user on the display screen at the estimated optimal position, while utilizing an auto-zoom and the virtual markers to zoom in to provide proper framing. The auto-zoom is utilized while maintaining a substantially fixed camera distance from the subject. The programming provides feedback based on the anatomical features for directing the user to move the camera appropriately relative to the virtual markers, thereby resulting in an optimized view of the anatomical information. The end-user software program captures the optimized view of the anatomical information via the camera to provide output data.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for an improved Contrast Therapy Device that delivers alternating heated and chilled temperature fluids to a contrast thermal therapy pad. Mitigation processes maintain water temperature in hot water tanks and cold water tanks in order to keep water temperatures in the respective tanks from drifting beyond a desired setpoint range when the system switches a therapy state from a cooling cycle to a heating cycle or from heating cycle to a cooling cycle. Thermal shock is reduced to the fluid tanks. Mitigation techniques include delaying actuation of a return path flow, such as via a diverting solenoid. Mitigating delay can be a static time delay based upon one or both of: a volume of water in a therapy pad and related volume and rate of flow; and meeting a threshold transition temperature for return fluid temperature.

Abstract: A method and system for correcting vision in an eye that uses a wavefront-customized phakic or pseudophakic Intraocular Lens (IOL), the method comprising: (1) measuring wavefront aberrations of the eye; (2) designing a wavefront-customized correction profile for an IOL; (3) creating a customized IOL with the customized correction profile; and (4) implanting the customized IOL in the eye, without having to remove the natural lens. Alternatively, an uncorrected IOL is implanted first, followed by scanning a femtosecond laser spot across the implanted IOL to locally change the Index of Refraction of the IOL material and create an in-situ customized IOL.

Abstract: A photocoagulation apparatus of some embodiment examples is configured to apply both treatment light for subthreshold coagulation and an OCT scan to a retina via a probe inserted in an eye. Upon receiving a user's instruction, the apparatus applies the treatment light to the retina, and applies an OCT scan to the retina at least after the treatment light application. The apparatus compares the first OCT image constructed from OCT data of the retina acquired prior to the treatment light application and the second OCT image constructed from OCT data of the retina acquired after the treatment light application, thereby acquiring change information that represents a tissue change in the retina caused by the treatment light. The apparatus displays a change image based on the change information together with a retinal image.
