Abstract: The present disclosure deals with the biochemistry of reagents useful in the detection of ammonia in liquid samples. Specifically, the present disclosure is directed to a technical improvement of an enzyme-based test for ammonia that can be used for analysis of plasma samples taken from patients in clinical settings, among other uses. In this regard, stability of a reagent containing NAD(P)H is improved, enhancing shelf life and results in the detection of ammonia. In an exemplary reagent ammonia released as a result of NAD(P)H decay is scavenged using an enzymatic reaction to convert the ammonia using GLDH, NAD(P)H and 2-oxoglutarate, thereby forming L-glutamate, NAD(P)+ and H2O in the NAD(P)H containing reagent.

Abstract: The invention is directed to methods for analyzing polymers comprising linear chains of at least two types of monomers, such as polynucleotides, including DNA, RNA, and the like, using nanopores and optical detection. In some embodiments, as few as two different kinds of nucleotide are labeled with different optical labels that generate distinguishable optical signals for the selected kinds of nucleotide in both sense strands and antisense strands of target polynucleotides. Labeled strands are translocated through nanopores where nucleotides of the strands are constrained to pass sequentially through an optical detection region where their labels generate a sequence of optical signals making up an optical signature. In some embodiments, information from optical signatures from both sense and antisense strands are combined to determine complete nucleotide sequences of target polynucleotides.

As examples, an amount of mitochondrial DNA can be used to estimate a concentration of DNA of a tissue type, such as a fetal DNA concentration, tumor DNA concentration, or a concentration of DNA in the biological sample derived from a non-hematopoietic tissue source. Sequencing techniques can be used to determine a mitochondrial DNA concentration in a sample for an accurate detection of a level of cancer. Abstract: The present application provides a process and system for recovery of rare earth elements. In particular, the present application provides a process for obtaining a precipitate of rare earth elements (REE), comprising: (a) obtaining an acidic composition comprising the REE (such as, for example, a pregnant leach solution); (b) adding a reducing agent to the acidic composition and adjusting the pH with a basic agent; (c) adding oxalate directly to the composition formed in step (b) and mixing to form an REE oxalate precipitate; (d) removing the REE oxalate precipitate from the mixture of step (c).

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for recycling metal-chelates by separating the metal or metal ion from the chelate by forming a metal salt or metal precipitate apart from the chelator. In various embodiments, gadolinium-chelates, which are used as MM contrast agent and which create vial hold-up material that is otherwise discarded, are acid or solvent treated to promote separation of the gadolinium from the chelate for downstream sale or further processing.
