Abstract: Wavelength determining image sensors and systems are provided. A sensor as disclosed includes a number of pixels disposed within an array, each of which includes a plurality of sub-pixels. Each wavelength sensing pixel within the image sensor is associated with a set of diffraction features disposed in a plurality of diffraction element layers. The diffraction features can be formed from materials having an index of refraction that is higher than an index of refraction of the surrounding material. At least one of the diffraction element layers is formed in a grating substrate on a light incident side of a sensor substrate. Wavelength information regarding light incident on a pixel is determined by applying ratios of signals obtained from pairs of included sub-pixels and calibrated ratios for different wavelengths to a set of equations. A solution to the set of equations provides the relative contributions of the calibrated wavelengths to the incident light.

Abstract: Flowcells and Raman analysis systems provide improved signal collection dynamics through increased solid-angle geometries and improved numerical aperture for near-diffraction-limited performance. A combined excitation/collection beam passes through a first optical material, a sample conduit and a second optical material. A concave reflective aspheric surface focuses and re-collimates the combined beam to and from a region of the sample within the conduit. The optical materials may comprise separate windows or may integrally form sidewalls the conduit. The reflective surface may be spaced apart from the second window or may be integrally formed with the second optical material. The focused region in the sample may approximate a point or a line, and at least a portion of the interior wall of the conduit may be reflective, causing the combined beam to pass through the sample region more than once to enhance collection efficiency.

Abstract: An AC powered temperature sensing microchip is powered wirelessly through Resonant Wireless Power Transfer, sends temperature data using backscattering and hence does not require a DC rectifier circuit. It receives the AC power and uses it (without rectifying) to measure the temperature. A Band Gap Reference Oscillator is used to measure the AC signal strength that is received in a microchip and two PTAT oscillators are used to accurately measure the temperature. The outputs of these three oscillators are sent using the backscattering communication method. It can also be used for accurately measuring and communicating the temperature of subject bodies including but not limited to pharmaceutical products such as vaccines, intravenous injections, and other similar medicines. The invention described can also be used for measuring the temperature of food products, blood samples, and any other sensitive product where the continuous monitoring of temperature is a mandatory or regulatory requirement.

The isolation container receives the sample pair. The container inserts into the axial cavity and including an opening for disposition adjacent to the window. The compressor has circular cross-sections for insertion into the axial cavity and includes an external helical thread portion for engaging the internal helical thread portion of the housing. Axial pressure applies to the isolation container by turning the compressor inside the axial cavity. The isolation container provides thermal insulation from the housing and the compressor.

In an electrode ink quality determination method, a measurement system detects an index that correlates with the amount of the primary aggregate and the amount of the secondary aggregate in the electrode ink. An information processing device: estimates the conditions of the primary aggregate and the secondary aggregate in the electrode ink on the basis of the index detected; and determines that the greater the amount of the primary aggregate included is, relative to the amount of the secondary aggregate, the better the quality of the electrode ink is.

Abstract: A new acoustic technique, tensile acoustic rheometry (TAR) for performing rheology measurement of a soft viscoelastic material sample is provided. In TAR, an excitation acoustic pulse is applied using a focused ultrasound transducer to a sample material to induce oscillatory motion of the sample. To track this induced motion, high repetition frequency ultrasound pulse-echo technique is used using a co-linear, con-focal ultrasound transducer that detects the backscattered echo signal from a surface or an interface of the sample. The detection ultrasound transducer system converts the echo signals to an electrical signal, and a processor determines a displacement of the interface of the sample as a function of time. The processor also determines the spectrogram, or the frequency spectrum of the dynamic surface movement of the sample material as a function of the time. Viscoelastic properties of the material are then determined from the displacement and the spectrogram measurements.

Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for anti-sorting particles is disclosed. In an example embodiment, particles move in a fluid along a microfluidic channel. A measurement device determines which particles are selected or desired particles by measuring a desired characteristic of the particles and outputting an associated signal. The energy source continuously imparts a force on unselected or undesired particles in a deflection region of the microfluidic channel to remove the unselected or undesired particles from the stream of particles. Based upon the signal outputted by the measurement device, the energy source is controlled to reduce or eliminate the force on selected particles such that the selected particles flow on a natural or expected flow path to a collection area such as an output channel. By avoiding application of force to desired particles, the anti-sorting systems and methods can improve viability and other characteristics of the desired particles.
