The light structures are projected in a first wavelength range and the image capture detects the wavelength range that has the intensities caused by fluorescence of the object. The wavelengths emitted from the object are filtered when the projected light structures are captured. Both the wavelength range used for projecting light structures and the wavelength range having the fluorescence are detected for the same image capture and the transmission of the wavelength range having the fluorescence is larger than the transmission of the wavelength range used for projecting light structures. Abstract: A route from a current location of a portable device to a destination is determined, where the route includes a sequence of directed sections. Navigation instructions to guide a user of the portable device along the route to the destination are generated. To this end, candidate navigation landmarks perceptible within a 360-degree range of the current location of the portable device are identified using (i) one or more metrics of observability, prominence, and uniqueness and (ii) a user preference related to a type of landmark, and an initial instruction in the navigation instructions is generated and provided via a user interface of the portable device. The initial instruction references the selected navigation landmark.

Abstract: Provided is an information processing apparatus that efficiently creates a low-dimensional environmental map on the basis of high-dimensional sensor data. The information processing apparatus includes: an object construction unit that clusters sensor data including a high-dimensional point cloud and constructs a high-dimensional object for each cluster; a projection unit that subjects the high-dimensional object to low-dimensional projection; and a map construction unit that constructs a map on a basis of the object subjected to the low-dimensional projection. The object construction unit constructs a high-dimensional object having a size, a shape, and a posture based on geometric information extracted from a set of sensor data included in a cluster.

Abstract: Customized routing of vehicles is performed based on lane-level difficulty includes extracting data elements from traffic information indicative of performance of maneuvers by the vehicles. Raw difficulty scores are determined for each of the maneuvers based on the data elements. Lanes of travel are identified for the maneuvers. For each lane, a lane-level difficulty score is generated based on the raw difficulty scores corresponding to the maneuvers using that lane. Vehicles are routed accounting for the lane-level difficulty scores to include only maneuvers that have lane-level difficulty scores at or below a difficulty preference.

Abstract: A resolver comprises a pair of stator windings and a rotor winding that is rotatable with respect to the stator windings and inductively coupled to these. A method for monitoring the resolver comprises exciting the rotor winding with an alternating current having an oscillation frequency and a first phase, obtaining voltages induced in the stator windings by the alternating current flowing in the rotor winding, deciding that the resolver is defective when a shift between phases of a first one of said induced voltages and of the alternating current differs from a nominal phase shift by more than a predetermined phase threshold.

Abstract: A Halbach-based magnetic position sensor includes a Halbach magnetic element having a spatially rotating magnetization pattern along an extent, producing a focused and augmented magnetic field on a working side relative to a magnetic field on a non-working side. A sensing element on the working side is co-configured with the Halbach magnetic element for relative motion therebetween. The sensing element includes encoder circuitry and magnetic sensors that sense the working-side magnetic field and produce corresponding sensor signals. The encoder circuitry translates the sensor signals into position signals indicating relative position between the sensing element and the Halbach magnetic element. In one example the Halbach magnetic element has a closed curve (e.g., substantially circular or ring-like) configuration.
