  • Patent number: 8333282
Abstract: A device for dewatering bulk or free-flowing input material by compacting it is provided. The device has a housing arranged along an axis of rotation, which has an input area and a feed and compaction area following axially within a jacket pipe. In the housing, a coaxial drive shaft with circumferentially extending coils rotates, compacting the input material during transport from the input area through the feed and compaction area. In this process the residual water present in the input material is conducted through radial openings in the jacket pipe from the device. According to the invention it is provided that at least in a partial region the jacket pipe is provided with passages and inside the jacket pipe an inner pipe is arranged, which lies at least partially with its external circumference against the inner circumference of the outer jacket pipe and which at least in the area of the passages has passage openings that are several fold smaller than the passages in the jacket pipe.

Abstract: A sludge dehydrating apparatus (200) according to the present invention is configured such that power is provided at opposite sides of a rotating rod (243) of movable disks (230) so that even if the apparatus is comparatively large or is operated at low speed, the rotating rod of the movable disks (230) can be prevented from being deformed. Thereby, the movable disks (230) can be smoothly rotated at the same time, thus enhancing the efficiency of the dehydration operation. Furthermore, because power is provided on the opposite sides both of the rotating rod (243) of the movable disks (230) and of the drive shaft of a screw (210), even if the screw (210) is comparatively long, the drive shaft of the screw (210) can be preventing from bending, thus preventing malfunction of the apparatus such as deformation of a fixed disk or a movable disk.

  • Patent number: 8312809
Abstract: Screw press, with small dimensions, particularly suitable for the compaction of solid waste for disposal also using sorted-waste collection. The screw press comprises an initial large-diameter screw section with a wide-pitch helix, communicating laterally with the bottom opening of the loading hopper (1) in order to remove the material from the hopper and feed it to a following small-diameter screw section with a small-pitch helix, surrounded by an internally scored stator body. This produces the feeding and compaction of the material which also occurs in conjunction with the action of a constriction which acts on the discharge mouth of this latter screw section. A press of this type has the two screw sections (3, 4) which are separated and arranged parallel to each other and one above or around each other, so as to form overall a press which no longer has as its length the sum of the lengths of the two screw sections.

  • Patent number: 7191700
Abstract: A system is provided with a solid-liquid separator which can transport sludge and other material for treatment without clogging and can efficiently separator liquid from such material for treatment. The system includes movable plates and fixed plates alternatingly disposed and two screws disposed in holes formed in the movable plates and fixed plates. The screws have blades that partially overlap. As the two screws rotate, the material for treatment is transported and the effluent is discharged through the gaps between the movable plates and fixed plates.

  • Patent number: 7152522
Abstract: A screw press is provided having a radial gate valve and supported longitudinally-extending screw shaft. The screw shaft includes a central shaft and helical threads which is driven by a drive package. The screw shaft is encapsulated within a housing including a hopper portion, transition portion, bearing portion and screen portion. A transition portion includes a radial gate valve which is angled such that the radial gate valve's axis of rotation is substantially parallel to the screw shaft threads. In addition, the screw shaft is supported by a first support at its proximal extremity and a second support towards its distal extremity. The support at its distal extremity includes one or more wear bearings which concentrically support the threads of the screw shaft in a frictional engagement manner. In operation, semi-solid materials are introduced to the screw press through the hopper portion inlet.

  • Patent number: 7143690
Abstract: The invention relates to a screw compressor for compressing matter that passes through the screw compressor. The screw compressor comprises a screw having an outer thread with a pitch that decreases in the longitudinal direction of the screw, and a casing that encases the screw. The casing has an inner side that faces the thread of the screw so that matter may be passed ahead through the screw compressor between the screw and the inner side of the casing in a direction from an inlet end of the screw compressor, where the pitch of the screw thread is greater, to an outlet end of the screw compressor, where the pitch of the screw thread is smaller. Appliances are arranged on the inner side of the casing to prevent matter that passes through the screw compressor from rotating along with the screw. Inside the screw, a conduit is arranged for introduction of liquid. The invention also relates to a method for compressing and dewatering.

  • Patent number: 7073433
Abstract: A system for transporting and dewatering solids in a fluid system. An auger is used to transport solids and provide first stage compaction. A dewatering plate having a restricted opening provides second stage compaction and dewatering. The auger maybe be shafted or shaftless. First stage compaction is achieved by a change in helical pitch of the auger immediately preceding the location of the dewatering plate.

  • Patent number: 7005077
Abstract: A method and system for separating human waste solids from liquid for a shipboard toilet system that allows for the separation of solid waste, compaction of the solid waste and storage of solid waste. Wastes are deposited into a shipboard toilet system that uses vacuum toilets to flush waste into a large, inclined solid waste separation tank. A vacuum pump is attached to the separation tank to maintain negative pressure within the tank and system and to move the separated liquid stream. The separation tank has a separating screen disposed across its entire width to retain solid wastes while allowing liquid to flow through. After separation from liquids, solid waste material is compacted and dewatered with a helical screw through an inclined tube, and packaged for later removal as landfill or burned in the ship incinerator.

  • Patent number: 6946072
Abstract: A method for washing a fibre suspension with washing liquid, in which, in accordance with the invention, the fibre suspension is introduced into an annular treatment channel (24) that has an inlet end (72) and an outlet end (73) and is concentric with an axis of rotation (5) to form an inner annular layer (74), washing liquid simultaneously being introduced into the treatment channel form an outer layer (75), which surrounds the inner annular layer. The fibre suspension and washing liquid are caused to rotate in the treatment channel whilst moving from said inlet end to said outlet end, fibres in the fibre suspension being caused to move into the outer layer of washing liquid, under the influence of the centripetal force, so that an accept (29), the liquid phase of which completely or mostly consists of washing liquid, is discharged at the outlet end of the treatment channel.
