  • Patent number: 5635020
Abstract: A platen adjust apparatus for the heating, compression and cooling platens in a bag sealer assembly of a high speed bagger. The bag sealer has a plurality of platen pairs in face to face orientation with each platen pair having an adjustable platen and a stationary platen. The stationary platens are mounted to a frame and the adjustable platens are mounted to a plate. This plate is slidably mounted to the frame for movement towards and away from the stationary platens. The plate is moved towards or away from the stationary platens by a moveable wedge member until the appropriate gap between the stationary platens and the adjustable platens is achieved. The gap is adjusted simultaneously along the length of the platen pairs because the plate is moved simultaneously along its length.

  • Patent number: 5611269
Abstract: A fluted or honeycombed profile on the rear side of the pressing stock or rolling side of the heating/press platens, which profile enables an increased flexible, two-dimensional deformation, in a longitudinally and transversely controlled manner, in just a few seconds in the on-line control process while providing larger support spacings. The fluted profile along the whole of the pressing zone advantageously increases the elastic bending deformability in the transverse direction, while, as a result of the honeycombed profile, an increased flexibility longitudinally to the pressing zone is attained. As a result of the fluted profile longitudinally to the pressing zone, the two-dimensional, spherical flexibility of the press/heating platen is substantially increased, so that use is preferably made of this fluted profiling.

Abstract: Apparatus for continuously making a multilayered, flat workpiece includes a press having with two press belts which are spaced from each other to define a reaction zone for passage of a workpiece in a conveying direction. A pressure element comprised of a pressure plate and a pressure pad defining at least one pressure compartment acts on at least one press belt for exerting pressure onto the workpiece. In order to completely seal the pressure compartment off from the pressure plate and the press belt, the pressure pad is formed by an elastically deformable material such as elastic hoses arranged side-by-side and communicating with each other, or an elastic membrane which extends at a distance to the pressure plate and is tightly secured on its free edge to the pressure plate. Suitably, a slip sheet is disposed between the pressure pad and the press belt.

The plate-press includes endless steel belts which are run around a fixed press table and a lowerable press ram via drive and tail drums, the press table and press ram defining an adjustable press gap. More particularly, the steel belts are supported by roller bars and transmit a pressure to the material drawn moving the material through the press gap. Heating plates are attached to the press table and press ram providing heat to the material in the press gap. In addition, first and second flexible heat transfer systems are located in a feeding area between the tail drums and the initial point of contact between the steel belts and roller bars and provide heat to the material drawn prior to entry in the press gap. The invention also includes a method for heating a continuously working heating-plate press.

  • Patent number: 5121684
Abstract: A method and apparatus for pressing an article includes a press arm and a press platen defining a pressing region positioned therebetween. First and second endless steel bands transmit a pressing force to an article to be pressed and draw the article through the press. A plurality of co-rotating rolling rods support the steel bands as they travel through the press. The rolling rods are introduced to an entry region of the press orthogonally relative to a longitudinal center of the press. First and second resilient pressure holding plates located in the entry region adjacent the press platen and the press ram, respectively, impose a pressure on the rolling rods that progressively increases as the rolling rods pass through the entry region.

  • Patent number: 5112209
Abstract: In a double-band or similar press the pressure on the mat that is being fed in is increased so rapidly as soon as this mat comes into contact with the heat-transfer surfaces that the outer areas of the mat harden under the great pressure, whereas the heat has still not penetrated into the interior of the mat. This results in an enhancement of the surface quality of the panel. As an example, to this end, a roller gap can be provided before the feed gap.

  • Patent number: 5054388
Abstract: A continuous press is provided wherein the elastic forces are conducted centrically from the centering bolts into the vertical Y--Y axis and the longitudinal center of the guide chain. An accumulation of unilateral forces on the brackets of the guide chain is thereby avoided. The elastic forces, which are set up in the bearing bolts by the linear displacements of the rolling bars and are at times considerable, are thus conducted centrically into the guide sleeves and thus as a force centrically into the guide chain. The forces thus do not occur as an eccentric load on the guide chains and, consequently, are incapable of causing the destruction of the guide chains even with a relatively high load.
