Patent number: 6550221Abstract: Bundles of banknotes are directed singly and in succession along an infeed duct toward a station located at the top of a channel, where they are formed into a block; the channel functions as a guide along which the block is conveyed by means of a companion element, following a predetermined feed path, at the same time as a continuous strip of banding material is fed along a path transverse to this same path. The leading end of the strip is taken up and restrained by a gripper device, and as the block progresses along the channel, the strip is intercepted and forced to wrap around three faces of the block, assuming a U shape, whereupon the leading end is flattened against the remaining face and a further portion of the strip is drawn by a diverter mechanism into overlapping contact with the leading end. The strip is then cut by a knife, leaving a discrete length of which the ends are joined by a heat seal bit to form a band around the block.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2000Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Currency Systems InternationalInventor: Armando Neri

Patent number: 6085487Abstract: Objects or stacks (S) conveyed sequentially into a strapping position (U) are strapped in the strapping position (U) selectively with a first strapping or wrapping material (A/A') parallel to the conveying direction and/or with a second strapping material (B) perpendicular to the conveying direction. For the parallel strapping, the first strapping or wrapping material (A/A') is positioned across the conveying path of the objects or stacks in the entry of the strapping position (U) and this first strapping or wrapping material is closed and cut behind each object or stack to form a strapping or wrapping, whereby the first material is simultaneously reconnected and repositioned for the next object or stack. Perpendicular strapping is carried out by means of a loop channel (32) arranged substantially perpendicular to the conveying path. For objects or stacks which are not to be strapped parallel to the conveying direction, the first strapping or wrapping material is shifted out of the conveying path.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1998Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Ferag Verpakkingstechniek B.V.Inventor: Henk De Vlaam

Patent number: 5249517Abstract: This pneumatic operated and controlled machine secures a line about nursery stock placed upon a table top to form a bundle. The line is fed from a source through an upper mechanism comprising a tensioner arranged to hold the line with a predetermined force, through a dancer arm arranged to tighten the line, and through a needle into a slot in the table top where the line end is gripped by a lower mechanism. The dancer arm pulls against the tensioner to draw the stock into a compact bundle. In a second embodiment a powered drum provides additional line tension for the upper mechanism. The needle wraps the line, the end of which the lower mechanism had gripped on the previous cycle, around the nursery stock and back into the slot, where both line ends around the bundle are adjacent to each other. The lower mechanism then pulls upon both line ends to further tighten the bundle, grips the lines, secures the lines together with a metal clip, and finally cuts the lines to free the bundle.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1992Date of Patent: October 5, 1993Inventor: Burl A. Patent number: 4936206Abstract: A method and apparatus for compressing fibrous material into dense bales having uniform size, shape and weight. Weighed longitudinally extended charges of material having a predetermined transverse dimensional profile are individually loaded into a compression chamber defined by side plates and first and second movable end platens. A long-stroke small-diameter hydraulic piston pushes the first end platen against the charge toward the second end platen, partially compressing the charge. The first end platen is then latched in a fixed position at full stroke while the second end platen, via a short-stroke large-diameter hydraulic piston, applies a further compressive force to the charge against the first end platen. The resulting fully compressed charge is pushed out of the compression chamber, bound loosely while still fully compressed, then released, whereupon the bale longitudinally expands into the bindings to a predetermined length.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1988Date of Patent: June 26, 1990Assignee: Thomas R. Patent number: 4044529Abstract: The disclosure is of apparatus including a pallet load which is to be wrapped with film, the pallet and load being horizontally movable along a straight-line path from a loading area to a wrapping station. At the wrapping station, there are a fixed vertical roll of wrapping film and a movable vertical roll of wrapping film, and the film to be wrapped around the load extends, as a curtain, between the two rolls. When the pallet load is moved into the wrapping station, it is pushed into the curtain of film which partially encloses the load, and the movable roll is driven toward the fixed roll to complete the wrapping of the film about the load and to provide a region where two layers of film overlap each other. With the load thus completely enclosed, a clamping bar secures the seal area, and a heat-sealing device is used to seal the overlapping layers of film to complete the wrap.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1976Date of Patent: August 30, 1977Assignee: Weldotron CorporationInventor: Seymour Zelnick
