  • Patent number: 7171893
Abstract: A rotary press is supported on a frame allowing liquid and solid receivers to be placed underneath the rotary press. The rotary press has an outer ring and an inner drum. The inner drum has an upper and lower flange with a stripper ring retained between these flanges. The flanges form two sides of the cavity where the pressing takes place. The flanges carry the solids away from the pressing zone to a discharge zone where the stripper ring expels the solids. By transporting the solids away from the pressing zone where liquids are expelled, reabsorption of the liquid is avoided. The stripper ring can move relative to the two flanges and is biased against the outer ring by the inner ring. The stripper ring applies pressure to the material to be processed and also pushes solid material from between the upper and lower flanges to fall into a receiver for the solids.

  • Patent number: 5598774
Abstract: Two rolls, more particularly embossing rolls are provided which are pressed against each other by pneumatic cylinders for the purpose of fashioning a flat material passing between the rolls. The ends of one of the roll axles are journalled in slides which are actuatable by the cylinders in such a manner as to be deflectable in the pressure direction and in the travelling direction of the material. The elastically suspended roll is thus capable of automatically adjusting itself in such a manner that the axles of the two rolls can adjust to irregularities of the flat material and thus allow a disturbance-free and qualitatively optimal treatment of the material.

  • Patent number: 5542349
Abstract: The printing products (33) to be pressed run through in an imbricated formation (S), in which the fold edges (33a) of the printing products (33) lie at the top, between the pressing rollers (3, 4, 5, 6) of two pairs of pressing rollers (1, 2) arranged one behind the other. The upper pressing rollers (3, 5) of each pair of pressing rollers (1, 2), which come directly into contact with the fold edges (33a), are fixedly mounted. On the other hand, the other pressing rollers (4, 6) of each pair of pressing rollers (1, 2) are mounted on each side in a common mounting (15), with the sides being resiliently mounted on pneumatic springs (16). The pressing rollers (3, 4, 5, 6) are driven individually by means of flexible drive belts (17, 18, 19, 20). By this arrangement, the printing products (33) can be pressed satisfactorily and gently even at high conveying speed.

  • Patent number: 5376220
Abstract: A device for bonding a thermoplastic tape to a substrate to form a fully consolidated composite. This device has an endless chain associated with a frame so as to rotate in a plane that is perpendicular to a long dimension of the tape, the chain having pivotally connected chain links with each of the links carrying a flexible foot member that extends outwardly from the chain. A selected number of the foot members contact the tape, after the heating thereof, to cause the heated tape to bond to the substrate. The foot members are each a thin band of metal oriented transversely to the chain, with a flexibility and width and length to contact the tape so as to cause the tape to conform to the substrate to achieve consolidation of the tape and the substrate. A biased leaf-type spring within the frame bears against an inner surface of the chain to provide the compliant pressure necessary to bond the tape to the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5197343
Abstract: A driven member has flat parallel top and bottom surfaces over at least a portion of its length. A motor actuated drive roller is mounted between two parallel, spaced side plates between which the driven member reciprocates and bears against the driven member. Back-up rollers engage the drive roller to prevent the pinion from backing away from the driven member. A spring-mounted pressure roller bears against the side of the driven member directly opposite the drive roller. As the motor turns the drive roller, the latter frictionally engages the driven member and causes the latter to move linearly without the backlash characteristic of rack and pinion mechanisms.
