Abstract: A canned food pressing device including a cylindrical member having an upper end, a lower end, and a cylindrical side wall therebetween. The cylindrical member has an external diameter slightly less than the internal diameter of a can of tuna fish. The lower end is positionable on the separable lid once separated from the can to facilitate an inward pushing of the lid against the tuna fish. A cylindrical flange member is secured to the cylindrical side wall of the cylindrical member intermediate the upper and lower ends thereof. The cylindrical flange member extends outwardly beyond the external diameter of the cylindrical member to provide a shield for the water and oil drained from the tuna fish.
Abstract: A packet, consisting of a stack of band sections lying parallel to one another, is formed in a magazine compartment. The packet is ejected by an ejecting apparatus onto the receiving table of a transfer apparatus. There it is compressed between holding members to a width B, which width is smaller than the corresponding internal measurement A of a mold, which mold is made of a base and side walls and which mold is open on its side opposite to the base. The mold is put over the packet and the packet is clamped within the mold, whereby the packet is made ready for further processing.
Abstract: A press for compressing elongated radioactive structural elements, with the ress having a horizontal press shaft and a removable counterpunch in place of which a transfer shaft can receive a finished pressed object. The press is remotely operable, has a minimum overall length, and assures that during compression as well as insertion of the pressed object into the transfer shaft, no small particles can escape from the press line and that the unavoidable swelling of the pressed object in the axial direction has no impact upon removal of the counterpunch and insertion of the pressed object into the transfer shaft. The press ram includes several insertable press ram sections, and the cover is divided into several cover portions. The horizontal press shaft is movably disposed in the pressing direction on a mounting base between two crosspieces interconnected by tie rods.

Abstract: A container for accumulating newspapers for disposal, the container dimensions approximating the dimensions of a standard newspaper, the container having spools of cord or twine disposed within the container, the cord or twine positioned within a guide path across the support tray for the accumulated newspapers such that the weight of the accumulated newspapers causes the support tray to descend within the container automatically dispersing additional cord or twine such that when sufficient newspapers have been accumulated, the cord or twine from the spools is already dispersed in sufficient quantity to permit the operator to bundle the newspapers about their lateral circumference and longitudinal circumference and remove them from the container for disposal.
Abstract: A frame forms a container having four vertical sides and a flat bottom plate. A hydraulically raised and lowered gate forms one of the sides. Wet hides are stacked on a pallet commonly used with a forklift. The gate is raised, and the loaded pallet placed on the bottom plate. The gate is lowered, and fillers are extended through side openings in the pallet into voids between the pallet top and bottom. A platen above the hides is hydraulically pressed downward within the container to compress the hides. A selected pressure on the hides is maintained for a desired compression period. The fillers within the voids limit deflections of the pallet top during compression of the hides, and consequently prevent damage to the pallet. The fillers are withdrawn, the gate raised, and the loaded pallet removed. The compressed, dry, cohesive hide bundles have a flat top and flat, vertical sides and are more efficiently packed for shipping.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the packaging of fibrous material, such as staple fibers or tow ribbons, in bales of high density by multi-stage compression and wrapping with two-dimensional packaging material and reinforcing bands. It further relates to equipment suitable for this process. The material to be packaged is first placed in transportable press containers and pressed, transported in these containers to a central press, and then subjected to a main pressing step. The packaging and reinforcing of the bales produced are carried out in the central press which can be performed automatically if desired. By this invention it is possible to combine three or more laying-down and first-stage press devices, which may be supplied from different fiber lines, with a main press.
