Position Or Alignment Patents (Class 101/485)
  • Patent number: 6823793
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mounting printing plate segments on a printing plate carrier comprising accepting positioning data indicative of a set of first positions and loading the imaged segments onto a working surface of the loading table at approximately the corresponding first positions. The method further includes, for each segment, detecting the position of the segment on the table, and using a mechanical pick-up system to pick up the segment and to carry the segment to a final position on the carrier. The carrying is via a path determined using the detected position on the table and the final position. The table's working surface has a set of vacuum holes coupled to a vacuum system. The mechanical pick up system includes a plurality of suction caps coupled to the vacuum system to pick up the plate. One version includes a mechanism for cutting the segments from the sheet.

Abstract: A method and a device for controlling drive units in a printing machine are disclosed. During continuous production, and in anticipation of a foreseeable disruption, one or more measuring values that are suitable for characterizing the disruption, are determined. The measuring values are used to estimate the expected variations caused by the disruptions in the variables affecting the printing process. The variables are preregulated or precontrolled directly before the start of the disruption or during the disruption.

  • Patent number: 6823132
Abstract: In controlling a motor in a device which drives a mechanism using the motor as a power source, pre-driving of giving a predetermined driving parameter to the motor and driving the mechanism is executed. During the pre-driving, movement of the mechanism is monitored, and a command value to the motor, which is necessary for starting the mechanism, is obtained. Driving of the motor is controlled using feedback using the command value as the initial value of the driving parameter. High-speed accurate position control can be achieved independently of the individual difference in an object to be controlled and the frictional force of the mechanical portion or the difference in use environment.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing an item of printed indicia is shown. A rubber band is provided which is stretchable between a relaxed state and an extended state and having a first exposed surface. The elastic substrate is stretched to the extended state and placed onto a form to maintain the substrate in the extended state. A primary indicia is then printed upon the first exposed surface of the elastic substrate. The primary indicia is readable to an observer when the substrate is in the extended state but is unreadable when the substrate is returned to the relaxed state. The elastic substrate can then be removed from the form and allowed to return to the relaxed state. The band can be worn about the limb of a user with the primary indicia forming a hidden message which is revealed to an observer when the substrate is stretched to the extended state.

Abstract: When initially routing a continuous web along a path, the web walks across the width of the path, and uneven tension occurs causing the web to break in some cases when printing tension is applied thereto. Further, uneven web tension is produced on the right and left of the web by excessive walk control resulting from an excessive deviation of the web from the target position of a walk controller, with the result that the web is crumpled and broken. These problems are solved by maintaining a web tension that is lower than the printing tension until the web position converges on the target position of the walk controller after loading of the web, thereby reducing the amount of correction by the walk controller and the amount of web lost in the preparatory phase before printing, with the result that excellent image quality free from crumple or breakdown is ensured.

Abstract: A method of correcting the position of a printed image on a printable medium, said image being generated by a computer and printed on the printable medium by a printer controlled by the computer, in which the computer executes a print operation to print an image onto a printable medium; obtains co-ordinates which define the actual position of the image printed as well as the co-ordinates of a desired position of the image; and responds to the difference between the required and the actual positions to correct the image which would be generated by the computer in the next execution of the print operation such that it will be printed at the correct position.

  • Patent number: 6729239
Abstract: A printing device reads an image on a printing paper with an image pickup part. It image-processes obtained image data in a control part, and operates the positions of respective register marks (R1 to R4). It operates the quantity of displacement necessary for positioning an image. It obtains an offset count number Co for deciding an image recording starting position from the obtained quantity of displacement. It stores the obtained offset count number Co while obtaining starting position data. Then, dimensional correction data for the image is calculated. The image on the printing paper is first picked up, and the necessary quantity of displacement is calculated. A speed coefficient k is calculated for changing the rotational speed of a plate cylinder. Following this, a correction quantity by a Cd default count number previously set for deciding the image recording starting position is changed. Accordingly, the offset count number Co is calculated again on the basis of the obtained speed variable k.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for fabricating a pattern which makes it possible to obtain a wide pattern having edges of a preferable shape. The apparatus for fabricating a pattern ejects a liquid material as liquid droplets from an ejecting section, and dispose the liquid droplets on a substrate in a line-shaped pattern. A plurality of line-shaped patterns are formed on the substrate by disposing a plurality of liquid droplets on the substrate in the line-shaped patterns, and then another set of liquid droplets are disposed between the line-shaped patterns so as to integrate the line-shaped patterns with each other.

  • Patent number: 6718879
Abstract: Determining and correcting registration errors, which are caused by the rotational speed of a print cylinder changing because of a sheet passing between the print cylinder and a sheet transport conveyor belt. At least one first registration mark is applied onto the conveyor belt prior to a sheet being transported thereby, and at least one second registration mark is applied onto the conveyor belt after the transported sheet. By the detection of the first registration mark and the second registration mark, a calculation of a timing number between the detection of the first registration mark and the second registration mark can be made. The calculated timing number is compared to a target value to determine any error due to change in angular velocity of the print cylinder due to engagement with the sheet.

Abstract: The invention relates to a closed-loop control method for operation of individually driven rotating machine elements (M1, M2) with angle position control, which elements are coupled with a force fit or via a common load (L). In this case, parameters (UP) that describe the circumference of the driven corresponding machine elements (M1, M2) are supplied as a correction variable in the form of an angle position error (WA) to the input of the angle position regulator (WR). These may be diameters or radii of machine elements (M1, M2) which are involved, as well as a diameter and at least one diameter difference, or at least one radius and at least one radius difference.

  • Patent number: 6712003
Abstract: In an automatic printing plate exposure device, when temporarily positioning a printing plate, a position of the printing plate in a temporary direction is determined by the printing plate abutting a pair of positioning pins. When actually positioning the printing plate in an exposure section, a position of the printing plate in an actual direction is determined by the printing plate abutting a pair of positioning pins. An angle of inclination in the temporary direction with respect to a front is set smaller than an angle of inclination in the actual direction. When positioning the printing plate, a position at which the printing plate abuts the pair of positioning pins and a reference pin, and a position at which the printing plate abuts the pair of positioning pins and the reference pin at a time of positioning in the exposure section, substantially coincide.
