    Abstract: A hydrophobic gypsum composition is provided which contains gypsum, a granulated hydrophobing additive and a pH effecting additive in an amount sufficient to maintain the pH of the composition in the range of 8 and 12.5, in the presence of water. The granule contains an organopolysiloxane having silicon bonded hydrogen, a water soluble or water dispersible binder, and a carrier, preferably gypsum or a stearate salt, in an amount sufficient to hydrophobe the gypsum. The pH effecting additive is preferably lime but may be any appropriate additive.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a chemical adsorption solution prepared by dissolving a silane-based chemical adsorption material in a non-aqueous organic solvent, in which the non-aqueous organic solvent is a mixture including a first non-aqueous organic solvent and a second non-aqueous organic solvent having a boiling point higher than that of the first non-aqueous organic solvent. A preferable difference in the boiling point is at least 10° C. Preferably, the first non-aqueous organic solvent has a boiling point of not more than 120° C. and the second non-aqueous organic solvent has a boiling point of not less than 150° C. The chemical adsorption solution coated on a substrate is concentrated by evaporating the solvent having the lower boiling point, so that a chemically adsorbed film having a uniform film thickness can be formed in a short time.

    Abstract: In general, increased video image contrast is achieved by reducing light transmission through an antistatic/antireflective (ASAR) coating disposed on the surface of the display screen of a cathode ray tubes (CRT) by adding an organic dye to the coating. A silane coupling agent is added to the coating to prevent diffusion of the dye out of the coating which gives rise to undesirable water marks on the display screen. However, the silane couple agent at the required concentrations weakens the mechanical strength of the coating, reduces its electrical conductivity, and changes its light reflective index. To avoid this, two or more different silane coupling agents are added to the ASAR coating with the plural silane coupling agents having an additive, or combining, effect which allows for the use of reduced amounts of the coupling agents and avoids the aforementioned problems. One agent is hydrophobic, while the other bonds to the organic dye.

    Abstract: In a process for producing a product coated with a water repellent film which comprises applying on a base substrate a coating liquid containing a silicon alkoxide, a fluoroalkyl group-containing silane compound and an acid dissolved in a solvent and drying; the process for producing a product coated with a water repellent film being characterized in that said coating liquid contains: said silicon alkoxide or a hydrolysate thereof is present at a concentration equivalent to 0.01 to 2% by weight of silica formed by hydrolysis of the silicon alkoxide, said fluoroalkyl group-containing silane compound is present at a concentration equivalent to 0.00001 to 0.15% by weight of silica formed by hydrolysis of the fluoroalkyl group-containing silane compound, 0.003-3 normality of said acid, and 0-20% by weight of water. The invention further provides water repellent products having a good rolling properly of water drops, a high scratching resistance and a high weatherability prepared by the process of the invention.

The sol should produce bonds in a single application comparable in strength and performance to standard anodize controls.
