And Chain Seal Patents (Class 110/271)
  • Publication number: 20010035115
Abstract: An extended life traveling grate side plate having a heat transfer opening formed in a front portion of the side plate. The side plates are attached to the lateral side surfaces of each chain in a traveling grate conveyor. The front portion of each side plate overlaps the back portion of the preceding side plate such that the back portion of each side plate is covered and prevented from radiating heat away from the side plate. The heat transfer opening formed in the front portion of each side plate facilitates greater heat transfer from the overlapped area of the side plate. The front portion of the side plate is generally planar and does not include any gussets, thereby eliminating the heat transfer properties of the gussets and creating a more uniform thermal expansion of the side plate.

  • Patent number: 5050510
Abstract: An apparatus and method of burning trash containing aluminum in a furnace having a moving grate and inclined trays. The grate has an upper and lower part. The inclined trays are provided with one or more inclined plates. The inclined plates are supported on the trays below the upper part of the grate and above the lower part of the grate. Ash and molten aluminum falls through the upper part of the grate, onto the inclined plates, the ash slides off the plates and the aluminum remains on the plates. The plates have holes therethrough to allow air flow for combustion. Some blockage of the holes by aluminum will result over time, but not enough to significantly restrict the flow of combustion air to the combustion area. The trays are removed through the side walls of the furnace for removal of the aluminum when necessary.

  • Patent number: 4694757
Abstract: A refuse fuel burning boiler system incorporating a unique tuyere construction wherein the tuyere plates associated with the conveyor-like stoker grate are hingedly mounted to permit the passage of any hard deposits of metal or glass contaminates which form upon the grate during incineration of the refuse fuel. The tuyere plates and support structure are designed for relatively easy retrofit into an existing conventionally designed refuse burning boiler or be incorporated into a new boiler construction. Vertical pivoting of the tuyere plates is limited by hold-down members installed between adjacent plates. These members further function to fix the lateral position of each plate and form the top of an enclosure over the recess in the support wall in which the plates are pivotally mounted.

  • Patent number: 4398473
Abstract: A wood-burning stoker grate is provided a barrier across its rear end functioning as an impact surface for fuel and foreign matter projected toward the rear of the stoker grate. The barrier is made up of two sections, each section formed of parts with the same configuration as parts used in the stoker grate.

  • Patent number: 4235172
Abstract: A grate wherein several steps of alternating partly overlapping mobile and stationary grate bars are adjacent to a compensating device which expands or contracts to compensate for heat-induced variations of the width of adjacent steps. The compensating device supports or is adjacent to a sealing device having auxiliary bars which abut against the side faces of adjacent mobile grate bars and abut against the top faces of adjacent stationary grate bars. The side faces of the stationary bars are separated from the sealing device and from the compensating device by permanent clearances which are overlapped by the auxiliary bars. The auxiliary bars rest on the stationary bars and are biased against the side faces of the respective mobile bars by weights or springs of the compensating device.

  • Patent number: 4096809
Abstract: Apparatus which compensates for thermally induced changes in the width of gaps between longitudinally extending marginal portions of grate sections in industrial furnaces has two rows of plate-like cheeks which abut against the marginal portions of neighboring sections and can swivel on fulcra defined by the webs of inverted U-shaped supporting devices whose legs are turnable about pivots mounted in a frame and extending in parallelism with the marginal portions of grate sections. The cheeks are urged away from each other and against the marginal portions of neighboring grate sections by pairs of two-armed levers mounted on a common shaft which is biased downwardly by a package of dished springs through the medium of a pull rod. The cheeks of each row are secured to plate-like carriers which are disposed between the respective rows of cheeks and the corresponding arms of the levers and are swingable on the associated fulcra.
