  • Patent number: 11125432
Abstract: A burner for solid particle fuels such as shavings or pellets. The invention includes a helical piston to deliver fuel particles up an inclined tube into a cup having an oxygen delivery tube for combustion. The helical piston is axially extendable and retractable to first advance material up the tube without rotation, and then retract with rotation so as to screw itself into the next charge of material to be advanced. Combustion heat may be used to drive a Stirling engine or other mechanism for converting heat into other useful energy or power, such as using the burner as a component of a combined heat and power (CHP) system.

  • Patent number: 10668900
Abstract: A dryer assembly for a vehicle wash system for emitting high velocity air onto a vehicle exterior includes a housing having an air inlet and an outlet. The air inlet is in communication with a motor assembly having an operating and a non-operating mode. The assembly also includes a gate mechanism in communication with the air inlet. The gate mechanism includes a plurality of pedals that are each pivotable between a first position and a second position. The gate mechanism is in communication with a controller, which directs movement of the plurality of pedals from the first position where the plurality of pedals surround the inlet opening such that air can flow into the housing and the second position where each of the plurality of pedals covers a portion of the inlet opening such that in their entirety the plurality of pedals obstruct the inlet opening to prevent air for flowing into the housing.

  • Patent number: 5137012
Abstract: A pellet burning stove includes a firebox defining a combustion chamber, a pellet burner located within the firebox, a feed system for moving combustible pellets to the pellet burner and an ash pan for receiving ashes from the pellet burner. The pellet burner includes a horizontal surface having an elongated combustion zone defined by a plurality of primary air openings in the burner surface, and a feed surface adjacent to the combustion zone. The feed system moves a thin layer of combustible pellets across the feed surface into the combustion zone. An air plenum surrounding the feed surface of the pellet burner supplies combustion air upwardly through the primary air opening and the layer of combustible pellets. The air plenum maintains the pellets relatively cool until they reach the combustion zone. Ashes drop off an edge of the burner surface into an ash pan. An artificial log set and a log support member fabricated of refractory fiber material define a secondary combustion cavity above the pellet burner.

  • Patent number: 5027719
Abstract: The present invention discloses a rotary grate for a solid fuel fired furnace which allows ash, cinders and clinkers to be removed from the burning fuel mass, without reducing or stopping the combustion process. A plurality of parallel water cooled rolls supports the burning fuel mass. The rolls are grouped into pairs of rolls, each pair of rolls having a drive roll and a driven roll. Each pair of rolls are geared together such that rotation of the drive roll simultaneously rotates the driven roll. Each roll has a plurality of protrusions about the circumference thereof, spaced down the length of the roll. The protrusions pass, during rotation of the rolls, the protrusions on adjacent rolls in non-contacting relationship to crush any cinders, clinkers or other tramp material. This action allows ash and the crushed material to pass between the rolls to an ash collection area beneath the rolls. Each of the drive rolls are rotated by a reversible drive mechanism which incrementally rotates the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4545309
Abstract: There is disclosed a furnace for burning wooden wastes and, more specifically, sawdust and/or barks. The furnace is provided with an oil burner required for starting the fire. The draught from the oil burner fan is directed within a perforated box, located in the combustion chamber of the furnace, and the sawdust or the barks or other wooden particles fall, according to a measured flow, over the perforated box. The sawdust is first alighted by the oil burner flame, and combustion thereafter builds up thanks to the draught from the perforated box. This box draught comprises a vertically-upwardly-oriented vector, for alighting the wood particles before the latter reach the box, and a horizontal vector extending toward the interior of the furnace to force the burning particles away from the side wall of the furnace. The system includes measured flow feeding system for the sawdust and/or the bark, and having a pair of flap-doors to prevent the escape of smoke from the furnace.
