Hollow Grate Patents (Class 110/298)
  • Patent number: 4598651
Abstract: A solid fuel furnace having an oscillating grate plate solid fuel burner therein wherein the grate plates are in a stepped arrangement and every other plate moves together, in an opposite direction from the adjacent plates so that the solid fuel is kept moving down the step grate positively. Additionally, the solid fuel burner is mounted in a furnace housing which is designed to utilize the hot combustion gases to preheat incoming or makeup air for a blower used for supply air flow for heating. Baffles are used to provide a substantially elongated path for the combustion gases to ensure adequate heat exchange in a compact space.

  • Patent number: 4516534
Abstract: A novel steel construction solid-fuel firing boiler for civil heating applications comprises a space portion defined by side, bottom, cover, front and rear walls forming therein an interspace for water to be heated, a firestone block burner in the space portion separating a fuel containing upper zone and a lower zone where a flame extends and flue gas is conveyed, the burner defining at a top face thereof a housing with a bottom hole for communicating the upper and lower zones and accommodating therein a refractory material body having a structure for holding overlying embers. The housing bottom and the refractory material body define a channel opening at the hole and communicating with an air distribution chamber in the front wall for conveying secondary combustion air.

  • Patent number: 4479441
Abstract: An inclined hearth incinerator for the incineration of municipal, and industrial/commercial solid waste optionally in conjunction with sludge, with a controlled amount of combustion air allows the even distribution of underfire air to an upper hearth of plural stepped hearths in the floor of the incinerator. A clean-out assembly includes a piston which automatically cleans out feed-tubes for combustion air. The feed-tubes are protected by being embedded in the hearth, or being disposed beneath the hearth. The piston and a ram on the hearth may be interconnected for reciprocation by an actuating means so as to provide synchronous to-and-fro movement of the piston and ram.

  • Patent number: 4463688
Abstract: An improved grate block includes a blow-out channel terminating at a blow-out opening through the face of the block, the opening having pre-determined dimensional relationships with respect to the size of the front face of the block. The ratio of the width to the height of the front face is smaller than the ratio of the width to the height of the blow-out opening, and one-half the area of the front face is between 20 and 40 times larger than the cross-sectional area of each blow-out opening. Additionally, the blow-out openings are arranged above the horizontal center line and laterally spaced from the vertical center line through the front face, the channel sloping at an angle relative to the upper surface of the grate block which lies between about 15.degree. and about 25.degree..

  • Patent number: 4262611
Abstract: A method of and installation for incineration of solid and, if desired, liquid waste. The installation comprises a pyrolysis chamber and connected directly therebelow a combustion chamber. Exhaust gas ducts which cover the outer walls of the pyrolysis chamber either partly or completely in such a way that the covered wall surfaces of the pyrolysis chamber serve as the inner walls of the exhaust gas ducts. One or more swivelling gate elements which when moved create passages of different cross-sections through which solid and gaseous products from the pyrolysis process are discharged from the pyrolysis chamber into the combustion chamber. Combustion air supply inlets are arranged in flow direction behind the gate elements.
